wrong ‘president’ but willing to see how this plays out

The Nipah virus infection is a “zoonotic illness” transmitted from animals like pigs and fruit bats to humans, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The WHO has described the virus as a priority pathogen because of its potential to trigger an epidemic.
What are the symptoms of Nipah virus?
Initial symptoms may include:
- Fever
- Headaches
- Muscle pain
- Vomiting
- Sore throat
In some people, this can be followed by:
- Dizziness and/or drowsiness
- And/or altered consciousness
- And/or altered acute encephalitis
- And/or atypical pneumonia
- And/or other severe respiratory problems
How deadly is it?
There are two main strains of the virus known to exist. The milder one caused the global outbreak in 2022 that affected Europe, Australia, the US and many other countries - and was mainly spread through sexual contact.
The second more deadly strain, endemic in central Africa, is behind the new recently discovered variant in DR Congo.
Mpox spreads from animals to humans and between people through close contact with someone who is infected - including through sex, skin-to-skin contact and talking or breathing close to another person.
Ugh please no
No more pandemics ever please
It said Clade 1 was more commonly spread through close contacts within households and often to children, while the milder variant was mainly spread through sexual contact.
Seems we haven’t ramped up production of the 50yr old vaccine yet… Stockpiling vials no doubt
I believe there should be stockpiles of smallpox vaccine, at least enough to do ring inoculation strategy.
Bahahaha,
Brother, have I got some news for you
If you got smallpox vaccination ~50 years ago, does that still help against mpox? Asking for a friend.
You need a second dose if you had a dose c. 2022. Two jabs for those never vaccinated against the mpox.
So, in my unprofessional opinion, tell your friend to get a double dose from this century, or one at least - suzzers recent post seemed to imply CVS have plenty on tap
Anyone get smallpox vaccine here recently? I thought about it and then promptly forgot about it. Can I just pop into a pharmacy and get it, or are there more hoops to jump through? I know I could look into it, but I’m hoping one of you has already done that.
Someone told us vaccines dont work. Case in point.
30% death rate. Bust out the malathion.
