Somebody please catch me up on the lab leak stuff. A friend claimed it was true while taking a swipe at Fauci but I let it go.

Also, saw a tweet saying I better be thoroughly cooking my eggs, no over easy, because H5N1? Seems extreme at this point but wth do I know. (Edit: went back to look for the source of this and it’s from a dubious “expert”, so nevermind.)

Lab leak is now and always has been bullshit

That’s what I thought but that response would have just started a fight with someone I fight with too much as it is. His evidence was the supposed weird gene sequence stuff which I remember was disputed but I know there’s been back and forth on it. Not up to date on where things landed.

Yea the cleave site thing probably, supposedly only occurs if man made but turns out it can come about naturally, and there’s no other evidence, and it doesn’t make sense at all

Someone tell me why we allegedly get sick in the rain.

My retort was alasays, “do I get sick from a swimming pool, where I am engulfed in water.”

Because your body temperature gets lowered, weakening your immune system. When you’re engulfed in water, you’re not surrounded by airborne bacteria, I suppose.

More likely because the water that ends up in your nose is full of chlorine.

The lab discovery could explain why older adults are hit worst by Covid and children are rarely very ill.

It definitely ain’t over.

(The positivity rate is the rate of percent tested who have Coivid, not the rate of Covid in the population.)

Pretty sure my wife and I got covid last month, she took a test (negative), but I doubt the tests are accurate in catching whatever strains are out there now.

I still have excess phlegm 40 days later which was like the first time I got covid and the initial symptoms were similar as well.

My wife had all the same symptoms as her original covid two years prior as well, high fever and cough. Being knocked out for about 4 days.

Anecdotally, I had a family member that caught COVID a few months ago and the tests we had sitting around the house still picked it up.

Yeah we had family visit last month and had something rip through all of us, patient zero seemed to be our 1yo great niece that everyone was holding and playing with, too cute not to even though her nose was a fucking faucet lol. I think we just all assumed it was a shitty cold, but now my wife is starting to hear about a few people at work that tested positive for COVID having about the same symptoms (lingering sore throat, no noticeable fever, phlegm that lasted fucking forever and a day).

I mean too late to tell now, and we seem to be mostly fine, so it’s whatever I guess. Would be 3rd infection for me and 2nd for my wife and my son.

nah, they still are afaik. The protein they test for are relatively conserved.

I am on day 4 of being hit medium-hard by COVID. I used a test that expired January 2024 and the test line lit up almost immediately. My wife, who is exhibiting slightly less severe symptoms tested negative using another pack (don’t recall the date, but definitely expired). I think it’s 95% likely that she is/was actually positive, but I guess it’s possible that she picked up a non-COVID illness at the same time. (We got back from a Europe trip last week, and there were plenty of opportunities for exposure to all kinds of things.)

I’m on day 4 or 5 as well. Felt off on Friday, and sick sick on Saturday. Tested negative on an at home test Saturday that expired in Jan, positive at urgent care on Sunday. Not fun.

There’s a bad cold going around, too, that both MrsWookie and I had. We tested negative for covid and both got hit harder and for longer than our prior bouts with covid.

Sounds like the new FLiRT superspreading it’s way across the US, probably the KP3 variant IMO

Here’s hoping Trump gets a fresh dose

Vaccines probably waning too
