New Covid variant detected causing concern among scientists

It is currently unclear if BA.2.86 causes more severe disease than those that came before, or whether it will take off and become the dominant form of the virus.

But its many genetic changes ā€“ it has more than 30 mutations in the spike protein relative to the current predominant variant ā€“ and its detection in several countries, has put scientists on alert.

Oh yeah, these are great.

Unlikely for this one to reach the US though imo

Itā€™s already there.

Officials said that this variantā€™s ā€œlarge number of mutationsā€ has prompted concerns that it could evade immunity derived from vaccination and prior infections more than other variants.

I did see one person in a mask the other day but unless people are dying in the streets wonā€™t be more than a handful.

I see them relatively regularly in LA, mostly elderly people.

Good thing Iā€™m going camping deep in the wilderness this weekend. Yā€™all got 4 days to slow the spread. Figure it out this time.

The surge in LA is real. Have heard from three clients just today that they have it.

Iā€™ve been seeing a ton of Covid for awhile now

Hillary brought Covid to la.

Finally punched my COVID ticket. Faded it for 3+ years, but a midweek overnight in Vegas was my downfall.

Feel like shit. Headache, nausea, and achy bones/joints. Blah

Sounds like you are getting your moneyā€™s worth.

Take care. Lots of rest. Get the P-vid if you can.

Thank you all for the well wishes. Iā€™m like 80% recovered, still have a head cold but the nausea, fever, and aches have subsided, thankfully.

My wife now has it, womp womp. Since my positive test, Iā€™ve been isolating from her and wearing a mask between the bedroom and the bathroom, but here we are. Thereā€™s no reason to continue isolating, right?

Is it even possible to really socially distance from someone youā€™re living in the same house with? Depends on your ventilation I guess.

Probably not, short of camping in a tent in the backyard. Our version has been: me spending 23 hours a day in our second bedroom, and coming out with a mask on to use the bathroom or to go outside and look directly into the sun.

We probably wouldnā€™t have bothered and just let it get us both, but sheā€™s got a big work trip/convention next week. Scheduled to fly on Saturday, but that ainā€™t happening now. She probably would have just gotten Covid on the other side of the country and been stuck in a hotel room for an extra week, so maybe this is a win. I wonā€™t tell her itā€™s a win right now.

Any chance her symptoms started yesterday? That could allow her back into society on Saturday if she gets better I thinkā€¦
