Need to set the precedent that government can do this, for when a worse pandemic rolls around.

What will it matter? Weve already set the precendent that 40% of the country wont fucking listen. When an actual Captain Tripps comes around, we are going to die. A whole lot of us. Way more than any system can handle. And those who die after not listening this time will do so with ā€œfuck Fauciā€ as their last words. We are horribly broken as a species. We wont work together for any reason.

And this is why I identify as a statist, because I want government to have as much power as possible to rein in these dumbfucks.

If you arenā€™t vaccinated you canā€™t travel to the USA?

Plus the OG vaccine is pretty much useless now.

If you arenā€™t a citizen or permanent resident, yes.

This isnā€™t true, and a lot of the reason why immunity against infection in has faded is due to time, not just viral mutations. And even to the extent that vaccine effectiveness against infection has waned, itā€™s waned much less against hospitalization and death.

Really super not true

Itā€™s obviously better than no vaccine but either the policy should be updated to require boosters (like I think The Philippines has/had) or discarded entirely.

Only requiring non-citizens/non-immigramts to get one is also a form of soft xenophobia.

This is where I would start agreeing with the ā€œmy body my choiceā€ crowd, the evidence that this does anything much on an individual level in the long term is patchy and the evidence that it provides tangible social benefit is close to nonexistent, certainly nothing that would justify a mandate.

This is super untrue, and itā€™s exhausting to see this done here

Yeah WTF is this saying vaccines arenā€™t effective

But itā€™s also very understandable. As people increasingly resume their 2019 lifestyles their attitudes are going to shift toward understating the need for ongoing public policy measures. Itā€™s a very natural shift in approach that requires constant self diligence to not fall into, and thatā€™s exhausting as well.

I think thatā€™s fair when talking about restrictions regarding activities, but saying thereā€™s no evidence the booster provides tangible social benefit is dumb and wrong.

wat? my body my choice is a completely different issue, but are you saying you donā€™t normally agree with it?

With vax mandates, you either have to go all the way or not at all. By this time, everyone who will get one has got one.

Pretty much the rest of the world has forgotten that covid even happened in terms of public policy. America still has vax mandates for entry into the country solely for foreigners. What message does that send people, most notably conservatives?

Literally more vaccines equals less covid death is on the same scientific footing as the speed of light. Itā€™s absolute fact.

I wonder why?

Professor Wei Shen Lim, JCVI chairman, said: "Vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself against Covid-19, and the spring booster programme provides an opportunity for those who are at highest risk of severe illness to keep their immunity topped up.

ā€œThis yearā€™s spring programme will bridge the gap to the planned booster programme in the autumn, enabling those who are most vulnerable to be well protected throughout the summer.ā€
