The booster mandate only went into effect 3 weeks ago but I guess it’s no longer needed for us to “remain vigilant”.
America has decided COVID is over.
CDC gonna go from recommending and rolling out N95s to mission accomplished in like three weeks. Even faster than we defeated COVID last year.
Did anyone here ever get their free Biden tests?
yep. ~3 weeks from order to delivery
Hopefully they’ll work against the psi variant. Or maybe we’ll be up to Hebrew letters by then.
Yes, like a week ago.
Yes, like a week ago. They also sent an email like a day or 2 before they showed up. So be on the lookout for that.
It feels like they have a spreadsheet and Tim Workerman just goes though them line by line each day sending out as many as his little hands can handle.
We’re a little farther along than that. 80k cases a day, which is a 90% decline
Yeah it’s probably more like the deaths curve
My niece is six months pregnant and now caught Covid: fever, cough, aches etc. Anyone know how dangerous this is for the baby?
The risk to the baby that we know is basically the risk to the mom. Pregnant women have decreased lung capacity amongst other things which makes them at a higher, but not much higher, risk of progression to more severe disease.
I’m not aware of any specific effects onto a baby when mom had a simple medical course, but I’ve never looked into it. Pregnant women who get seriously ill can have all sorts of complications, but that’s a separate topic.
Thank you.
So has a lot of the first world
Across the UK, a second booster will be offered to:

JCVI advises a non-urgent offer of two 10 mcg doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine (Comirnaty®) to children aged 5 to 11 years of age who are not in a clinical risk group. The 2 doses should be offered with an interval of at least 12 weeks between doses.
International data from adult programmes suggest that a longer interval between doses (greater than the 3 to 4-week schedule widely used in the United States) is associated with a lower reporting rate of myocarditis following vaccination. This association is expected to also apply to the paediatric dose and formulation when used in children.
The available data indicate that the clinical manifestations of myocarditis following vaccination are typically self-limiting and resolve within a short time. The medium to long-term (months to years) prognosis remains less certain.
It is estimated that over 85% of all children aged 5 to 11 will have had prior SARS-CoV-2 infection by the end of January 2022
Data from adults indicate that vaccine effectiveness against symptomatic infection due to Omicron (Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine) wanes over time from around 70% shortly after 2 vaccine doses to around 25% after 10 weeks and 10% after 20 weeks.
Professor Wei Shen Lim, Chair of COVID-19 immunisation on the JCVI, said:
The main purpose of offering vaccination to 5 to 11 year olds is to increase their protection against severe illness in advance of a potential future wave of COVID-19.
We got our Biden/Psaki free COVID tests in the mail today. Ordered them the first day they were available.
Also, there was more than 24 hours between posts. Probably a first for UP since late January 2020.
