Sounds ethical to me!
Weāre already having some food shortages and is this right that covid really hasnāt hit rural communities much yet? This is going to get ugly when production decreases, countries stop or restrict exports and dependent countries canāt get enough. If we continue to notice shortages, price increases, empty shelves, thereās going to be some horrible stuff that we donāt notice so much.
Iām a couple thosuand posts behind, so sorry if this is a pony showā¦
This SBA/PPP stuff is complete garbage. Apparently the SBA grants are limited to $1,000 per employee, and the PPP loan is only forgiven up to 25% for non-payroll costs.
My mother-in-lawās commercial landlord just sent her a bunch of information to āhelpā her borrow a bunch of money to pay her rent to them. They are not giving any rent breaks. They are letting her keep her lease (while their building is shut down, non-essential) without paying them right now, but once the emergency is over they will be asking for back-rent.
Anyway, this is how the PPP loans are going to shake out:
- Small business owner borrows money from bank.
- SBO uses money for payroll & payroll tax
- SB employee pays income tax on money
- SBO asks bank to forgive loan - bank says ālol, you paid mortgage, right?ā
- Bank collects interest on money given to it for free by the public
This is not a stimulus to the public. This is a stimulus to the lending industry.
An actual stimulus would look like: āall rent & mortgage payments are suspended; landlords and lenders can apply for assistance to meet operating costs; landlord/lender debts backed by subject assets are in forebearanceā
As long as you donāt mind corn, corn bread, corn burgers and corn hot dogs on corn buns, and corn on the cob, weāll be good.
using āwhataboutismā to dismiss arguments you donāt like sure seems to be
Weāll be good, but thanks to NAFTA Mexico turned into a corn importer. What will they do?
2016: Trump says he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue
2020: Trump kills thousands of people on Fifth Avenue
If modern Republicanism has anything resembling an underlying philosophy, itās that human life is sacred and its sanctity inviolable during the period between conception and birth, and entirely expendable thereafter.
Same as always swap coke from corn pop
Dear Applicant,
On March 29, 2020, following the passage of the CARES Act, the SBA provided small business owners and non-profits impacted by COVID-19 with the opportunity to obtain up to a $10,000 Advance on their Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL). The Advance is available as part of the full EIDL application and will be transferred into the account you provide shortly after your application is submitted. To ensure that the greatest number of applicants can receive assistance during this challenging time, the amount of your Advance will be determined by the number of your pre-disaster (i.e., as of January 31, 2020) employees. The Advance will provide $1,000 per employee up to a maximum of $10,000.
You may be eligible for another loan program, the Paycheck Protection Program , which is available through participating lenders. Below is a comparison of the two loan programs:
Email from the SBA.
From the same email, the purpose of the SBA grant/loan:
To meet financial obligations and operating expenses that could have been met had the disaster not occurred (amount of any EIDL advance is forgiven)
Oh well, I guess?

$1000 for real? I hadnāt heard that. Not that I canāt use $1000 (Iām my only employee and since Iām a terrible accountant anyone who looks hard might not count me), but when you put that together with the chances of me actually receiving the $1000 ā my $EV/time worrying about it is not very good. I thought it was basically your average quarter out of the last year.
āAdvanceā tho?
Wonāt know enough about long term issues until the long term.
Hospitalization and icu rate is more important than mortality. Once those resources are overwhelmed mortality rate goes up.But basically, yeah, if 99.9% of us could get better at home then we shouldnāt be in quarantine. Doesnāt look like anybody really thinks thatās the case.
OK, but those things are closely linked. And if the infection mortality rate is that low then it seems like you could manage that by isolating the at risk groups who are much more likely to die (and also end up in hospitals and ICUs, because of that link).
So far the 1.3 acres site is reporting negative 9 deaths in the USA for today. With the power of exponential growth, everyone should be resurrected in a few weeks.
Theyāll die again the next day though.
I am not even capable of determining whether this is good but the effort is awesome. Iām glad there are people who do all the stuff I canāt. Which is everything.
The virus could kill 49.999999999% of the world population and heād be like āWell, actuallyā¦ā
Nice.
I think that even if it not doing much to filter anything, a mask serves a social distancing function. We associate masks with sickness. If your masks serves as a reminder to you and to others to stay away, it has done a better job than it would have as a filter anyway.
Not going to help you in a crowd where physical distancing isnāt possible, but at that point I think a person should just abandon NYC to Will Smith.
As long as you donāt mind corn, corn bread, corn burgers and corn hot dogs on corn buns, and corn on the cob, weāll be good.
MURPH
IFR in non-aged, non-obese populations is almost certainly closer to .5%.
