Australia has been doing semi-random testing from the start. Certain medical centers will test everyone coming in and which centers are doing this changes over time. Recently they have started larger scale random testing in certain neighbourhoods as well. They have not found any unexpected spread in the community. Australia is also on a trajectory now where they are considering keeping the current restrictions in place till the virus is eliminated from Australia. Of course easter could kill that plan as there has been a sharp increase in fines for not following the health restrictions.

That does happen on rare occasions. But this picture, from East LA - is particularly insane.

Anything to get past the mixed anecdotal evidence being used to push these drugs on people by Trump, his lackeys has their supporters.

I can tell you South Florida, which tends to be a democratic stronghold has nothing close to what could called a lockdown. Restaurants, nightlife and recreational activities (movie theaters, bowling alleys, beaches etc.) have shut down for the most part but construction, retail and pretty much everything else is business as usual.

Hmmmm…trying…to…resist…but…can’t help it…Echo Park…not…really…East…LA…

Yup, and likely to be the worst case scenario of COVID-19 marching steadily across the state for the next year while ~30% of the population is too scared to leave their houses, so the “return to normal“ never really happens.

The dichotomy between “economy or health, your pick” was nonsense from the start. Why does literally every major social and cultural debate get to be framed by right wingers?

hahaha I’m glad you did it first

Not a lot. People are staying at home. 100m radius around your home (~30 ft) is the limit. Most comply. I haven’t heard any scary story about hospitals and ER overrun with patients. My sister in-law was in contact with a colleague who was diagnosed. She only had a minor fever for a week, under 100f. She was not tested because she was deemed not a severe case. So real numbers could be much worse.

From my old boss about Moscow right now FWIW.

Dem governor of a red state going to keep records on folks attending church services… I’m sure the reaction in Kentucky will be super chill.

It doesn’t work for round knobs which are super common, and he says you keep it in your pocket so you just end up smearing germs on your clothes instead?

Seems wasteful. Better to take the hook to the bathroom after each use and wash it.

New french study is showing a large amount of pretty bad side effects - cardiovascular issues, loss of sight, loss of hearing. But what do you have to lose :man_shrugging:

Yeah you definitely don’t want to get the serious symptoms version of this.

2 rolls?? I live alone but I’d have to go to reload every three days.

Do you use that Charmin teddy bear stuff? My 1-ply Scott Tissue lasts a week. And I have to wipe a lot. Sometimes it’s like nutella or a melted milk dud.

Grocery trip report: I took the back roads home from work today (OKC to Norman). Drove by 5 or 6 stores that were pretty packed - 1 Crest, 1 Target, 1 Homeland, couple Walmarts. Traffic was lighter than usual though. I ended up going to a mildly busy Walmart neighborhood market. Got the last can of disinfecting wipes. They were fully stocked on all meats, tp, paper towels. No hand sanitizer to be found, and no biscuits for some reason. I’d say about half of the people wearing masks and most making an obvious effort to obey the 6 ft rule. I’m curious to see if stores start getting more disinfecting spray, disinfecting wipes, and hand sanitizer once they don’t have to use so much truck space to completely restock toilet paper.
