To add on to this a bit, if there was a group of posters who felt that they weren’t represented within the forum and wanted to brainstorm ways of improving it, isn’t this exactly how they should go about it? Yea there was some shit-talking in the thread, but there also seemed to be some constructive ideas being thrown around by people who are invested in this community and wanted to think of ways to improve it rather than leave.
For those feeling like an outsider to all of this, one of the regs in the PM thread expressly said up front within the thread “hey, I don’t want inclusion in this PM thread to be some sort of “who is cool enough” game.” Again, not cosigning the result of the discussion (a subforum), but it seems clear that there was positive intent within that thread. It wasn’t all petty name-calling.
I see of lot of this kind of ultimatum/threat. If you give an ultimatum and don’t follow through it’s hard to believe you should be taken seriously. Let’s see all the folks who say they will never post again remain true to their word.
This is kinda beside the point. I don’t have a problem with the PMs themselves. Some of the things said were pretty mean and would merit a temp ban if they were posted in a public thread. But they weren’t so they don’t.
The things that I have a problem with are some of the actions that people did take in public that were coordinated via the PM thread. Those actions would be problematic whether or not a PM thread was involved. The PM thread just helps to elucidate the movitvations.
As I’ve already stated, coordinated poking of jmakin especially after he already said that he’s having a hard time. Again, I realize not everyone involved in the PM thread was doing that, but there was some of that going on.
The people who didn’t want it to burn bent over backwards to accommodate arsonists and grievance peddlers for what seems like over a year, and are still continuing to do it, bless their hearts. If you wanted to save the forum, you or somebody else could have made the thread with an appropriate topic and it could have been debated, formalized as a proposal, and voted on. But people in the thread seemed to be skeptical that community approved "KFCBBQ"s were going to get them what they wanted, so the sense I got was, the putschers thought a little strategery of coordinated bad faith trash across a few About Unstuck threads was the way to go.
Yeah I didn’t read very many of the old posts. But Sabo starting it was a huge red flag. His thread urging people not to vote was the last straw for me. If posters here hadn’t met him IRL I’d be convinced he was some kind of Russian troll or plant.
Literally everything he posts is exactly what I’d post if i was paid a lot of money to try to demoralize lefties and convince them not to vote Biden. Just like what Trump operatives did with Haitan groups in Florida.
I saw you stick up for me though ;) I like you too victor. We’ve been good for a long time now.
You said people were just blowing off steam and that Keed, Sabo and Micro were forces of chastisement and moderation. I asked who chastised Sabo for taking another gross shot at jmakin, and you said no one, but in other places… So nobody chastised Sabo doing another attack in one of the more out of bounds way to attack someone is.
But dude, I agree with you completely, give me the thread back (not you, the universe) and we can see what’s what.
