Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Let’s not muddy the waters with more questions until we can clear up the classic conundrum about comparing Mexicans to cockroaches.

How the fuck is it 2020 and I have to explain that something can be racist when punching down and not racist when punching up…

And on a progressive board no less?

A better statement would be that China needs to permanently shut down these wild animal markets, they are a huge disease vector.

Anyone is southern California changing their plans to be in densely populated areas now? I’m kinda freaking out :frowning:

Dude, no.

Well this seems bad, probably going to rent Contagion to take my mind off things.

So exactly what he said but with like 79.2% less edgelording?

This didn’t even start with bats, it seems like it started with snakes… so… no. And it’s not just china. Wild animal markets are a problem in that entire region and need to be shut down. They are where SARS came from as well. Transporting live wild animals all over the fucking place is a problem. If people were just eating local bats they caught themselves that probably wouldn’t be as huge of a vector.

If people can spread the disease while they’re asymptomatic, really anyone in a major city should be thinking about it.

If it gets to the 50k are dying a month stage, there is no election. There’s a state of emergency and the election is postponed. If it’s less severe than that but still severe then turnout is severely depressed in urban areas because nobody wants to risk their life to go vote at a crowded polling station and Trump wins in a landslide probably carrying like 45 states.

That sounds… like exactly the kind of thing this administration would do. Fuck.

Maybe 50k per month is low for that level of response given that normal flu during flu season can kill up to 10,000 per month, but honestly, at a certain point, I think that’s the kind of thing that any administration does. NYC postponed it’s elections after 9/11 and you’re talking about something that could be thousands of times more disruptive and deadly.

Maybe the Chinese will stop eating bats was maybe a joke, but if not it’s dumb anyway. Maybe people will stop eating fowl and pigs as well right? They have been the source of all the flus except this one. (People should stop eating them, pigs for sure.)

Since voting is done at a state level and not federally I suppose it’s also possible that the states all adopt emergency measures to allow absentee voting for everyone. Some states already have universal vote-by mail, I can’t remember which.

It’s

“Eww gross. All x people are gross because they do something different to me”

Its textbook racism, and my facebook feed is full of racist filipino friends making the same racist point.

Yep. We know that state governments will take sensible steps to ensure as many people can vote as possible.

Meh, trumpkins in red states can catch it just as easily as the rest of us. If nobody wants to go to a live polling station in November because you’re risking your life than I could see even places like Alabama adopting Universal Absentee voting. That said, they’ll probably put all kinds of ID verification restrictions on it that make it impossible for poor people to vote.

Well this shit has me terrified. I’ve recently started taking care of my mom who was forced to retire early because she is now permanently on oxygen and nearly died from pneumonia like 6 months ago. She has COPD and really can’t do much around the house. At 71 I’m pretty confident this virus would take her out.

Until further notice I won’t be going to the casino which is like the worst place ever to pick up shit like this.

I don’t think it’s nearly the problem that pigs and chickens are.

Wheatrich should agree. People eating fewer pigs and chickens means people eating more wheat.
