My sense is that “drive thru” is misleading. It’s not about speed and convenience, it’s about keeping you the hell away from other people and the testers can be decked out in full protective gear. Another thing Trump will use to mislead people.
You guys are forgetting all the people about to lose their jobs and pay for food.
They can if they want to
Slowly stock up on everything you might need for 3 months min. Once say deodorant gets low - people will make a run on that, and then immediately make a run on literally everything because who knows what else might get disrupted.
I’m not saying raid the shelves. But I grab a few extra things every time. This at least gives stores time to stock up and doesn’t deprive others.
The fed govt is going to have to do something absolutely massive economically. There are so many businesses that are going to be generating zero revenue and no way to pay employees or service debt.
Think this is what the Brits are trying to do. I suspect it will work better in theory than practice.
They’ll extend unemployment for 2 years like in 2008. They’ll need to do a lot more though.
Someone mentioned this already, but you can make good sourdough without yeast.
The California news worries me a bit. My wife is 70, I’m 64 - we’ve been driving down from Reno to Stanford M thru Fri am then driving home to stay home 3 nights (until this week until the big Sierra storm) - but I get pretty run down around day 4-5 of the week and I really shouldn’t be driving 6 hours at a time. So I’m curious if her just not leaving the car but just driving would still be OK. We’ll see.

Grocery trip report.
Went Sunday afternoon. I had all my real shopping done a week ago. Just went for some fresh fruits and vegetables because I am not dipping into my non-perishable for as long as possible.
Gone: fresh beef and chicken, eggs, bananas, potatoes, Hot Pockets !?!
Something activated in my brain seeing what was going on as I walked the aisles curious to see what people were buying and I just started buying things that were on sale. Frozen pot pies. Rice cakes. Gatorade.
I ended up spending over $100.
Pull out your MD card and tell them it’s a medical necessity. No one will mess with you.
Types of these things are generally brought about by generations of selective pressure over very long periods of time. The classic example is sickle cell anemia. The misshapen blood cells are poorer oxygen carriers which has negatives but they also don’t let the malarial parasite in. Pressure was enough the heterozygotes (1 normal copy and 1 sickle copy) have better overall fitness than either homozygotes (killed by malarial or anemia depending).
I doubt that a one off is likely to have that big an influence unless it wipes out a full log (90%) or more. Basically the only way to survive is some variant gene.
No is going to arrest old people wandering around. It’s just a recommendation at this point.
Someone feel free to Narrator this post now or in a few days.
This really fits with the S Korea data. I always said the millennials were going to rise up and kill all the olds. I thought through violent outbursts brought about by subliminal images in Pokémon movies and games. Nope apparently via coronavirus and failure to heed instructions and a complete failure at the Federal level.

Jokes are passing over peoples’ heads.
Yeah. If UK gets a massive spike in transmission amongst the young, they will just infect the olds at a massive rate too.
People can try and isolate, but it’s just no possible. For example, I need to accompany my 80 year old dad to a memory clinic appointment on Wednesday.
I will be travelling separately and will keep my distance, but a certain risk is unavoidable.
Translate that by 100,000 infected young people who are perhaps less willing or able than I am to take these steps and you are walking into a catastrophe.
Yeah. I had a primordial hording urge throughout my entire weekly grocery trip this Sunday. The empty shelves feel pretty scary.
Largely I was able to resist, but it’s tough
I don’t have any ideas or answers for you, just wanted to tell you it’s heartbreaking and I’m really sorry you’re going through this. I hope you and your family can find some strength to get through this together and that it’s a peaceful process.
I don’t know that being in a private car would be breaking quarantine anyways.
