This looks like an interesting way to try and make baked potatoes that is about equally as complicated as freezing after boiling…
500 day! I didn’t know that was even a thing. Jesus.
Me either. I can’t imagine the complexity of it.
Is there any good reason to buy an air fryer? Anyone here uses one?
I’m still in like dumb food groups on Facebook and it seems like 90% of the posts are people praising their air fryer.
The combo convection oven thing I posted earlier has an air fryer function and I probably use it 3x/week. It’s really the best way to reheat a lot of foods, particularly anything you want crispy. I “fry” chicken wings and veggies in there all the time too, and they turn out surprisingly great.
I think the biggest downside I’ve come across is that when you search for air fryer recipes you end up with a bunch of mom blog results that often sound terrible, so you’ve got to kind of learn as you go.
Posting some belated Thanksgiving stuff. We had one of my wife’s travel nurse friends from Alabama and her daughter over for a 99% outdoor Thanksgiving(food spread and bathroom inside w/masks, eating drinkin and fun outside). They worked together the day before and the next AM so not much outside pozz risk. It was a really good time. I smoked a turkey and the full spread had a charcuterie board, green bean casserole, creamed corn, roasted potatoes, mac and cheese, a potato casserole, rolls, and a salad. We did not make a super huge dent.
Was expecting something humorous and got a very enjoyable video instead. Bologna schnitzel is a thing I need in my life.
Since I mentioned air fryer wings earlier, here’s the latest batch from last week. Made sort of a sticky spicy/sweet Asian sauce that turned out wonderful.
I tried making a Tex-Mex-style shakshuka with jalapeno, onion, and chili and cumin spices. Tasted pretty great! Now I can appropriate two cultures at the same time.
Try sprinkling some Quinoa in it and you can grab the Hipster’s culture too!
Take the frozen bird on down to the butcher shop and have them quarter it for him with their band saw? I have a disposable foil pan with decent handles I bought at the grocery store for $7 or so if roasting it in the oven is acceptable. Should handle a 15 pounder no problem.
We have an air fryer - here’s what we use it for:
Kid food (chicken nuggets, fries)
Stoner food (mozzerella sticks, pizza bites - this is a very rare use)
Finishing smoked chicken wings (smoke for about an hour, then air fry to crisp up)
Latkes (for my annual latke party I premake about 200 latkes beginning a few days before the party and reheat them at the part in batches of 10 in the air fryer, does a good job of crisping them back up)
I think that’s about all we use it for.
@MrWookie, this Lebanese joint in PDX is really good. I try to stop by whenever I’m driving through:
I’ve been told to get an air fryer or an Instapot repeatedly but never been terribly tempted to get either. A little while back David Chang went on a rant about horrible kitchen items that white people put in their kitchens (I think he was staying at someone’s house?) and those two were at the top of the list. Vindicated! That said I’m sure everything has its uses, I just don’t see myself getting much benefit from either of those.
Additionally, there’s no good Persian food in PDX proper. I think there’s a truck that makes okay stuff. There’s a Persian joint out in Hillsboro that’s good though:
That’s about all I got for food rec’s for PDX.
I don’t think the Instapot is in the same category as an air fryer. We use our instapot quite a bit, and it cuts down a ton of time when braising something or making beans or something like that. Cuts down the time to make pork green chile to about 30 minutes rather than a couple of hours. I recommend it.
