Fake that worked!

Man I love oregons band

Texas Tech d has been really really impressive. They can’t hold up all game surely though.

Defense definitely going to tire out like this

Oregon has dominated the entire first half and up 3. David Bailey is going off.

Pro tip: when you’re kind of surprised they’re not going for it… look out for the fake!

Third Eye Blind playing their big hit for a half-empty stadium looking at their phones. How the mighty have fallen. Also weird how they announced the song as well, like just in case you didn’t recognize the band name.

Maybe don’t book ancient bands for college games. You’d be amazed at how many very popular songs from the 80s have embarrassingly small view counts on YouTube.

texas tech is basically an SEC school in spirit, so we’re watching another head to head victory

how fast can they change the playoff format and make quarterfinal games be played on campuses? could they do it next year or is there a contract with the bowls where they’d have to wait years?

bc that needs to happen. bc it seems like top 4 teams would much rather play #9-12 at home the first game.

the bye needs to have more teeth

I think this current system is way more hilarious. But I don’t really care about college football, so I’m not really the target demographic.

Morton having a horrendous game

from a casual’s perspective sure, it’s fun to see upsets. but it’s kinda like in the ncaa basketball tournament, you wanna see northern illinois knock off the #2 seed in the first round. but generally you want the best teams (to see the best games) in the elite 8/final 4.

the football playoffs basically starts at the elite 8/final 4, so putting the best 4 teams at a clear disadvantage makes for more lopsided matchups.

if i was the #1 seed i’d rather have a home game against the #12 g5 team and play the #4 team in the quarters than have a bye and then play the #8/9 team (who is probably a really good p5 school with 2 losses) who is now on a roll after winning their first matchup at a neutral site.

that’s easily solved by making the quarterfinals on campus. only issue is the contract they signed with the lower level bowls who currently get the quarterfinals. make the rose bowl the championship and rotate the semi’s between those bowls and call it a day.

miami wouldn’t have gone into columbus and won last night.

oh st you could argue got off to a slow start due to the rust, but this game is just about one team being clearly better than the other

the top four teams are gonna be 0-6 the last two years, something’s obviously wrong and it has to be either the setup or the seeding process.

yeah this game for sure

like TT getting a home game against JMU and Oregon gets a bye you think anything changes today? probably not

i would be in favor of home quarterfinal games but for slightly different reasons

1. it would give more meaning to the RS and
2. neutral CFB games outside of the rose bowl kinda suck, atmosphere is so much better in on-campus games

One solution is to have the first round games much closer to the end of the season so that all of the teams are coming off a fairly long break at the quarter-final round.

I think we’re still seeing an issue of the small sample size of regular season games impacting things. Taking the #5 thru #12 teams, giving them an extra game to filter out any frauds, and otherwise selecting a team that everything is clicking for at this point in time, will tend to create a pretty robust field. Meanwhile the top 4 can contain frauds or teams not playing particularly well at the end of the season.

Last night was absurdly variance driven too. That phantom hold for instance. And don’t forget heavy underdog ASU taking Texas to double overtime.

Maybe I’ll feel differently if Georgia loses tonight…
