Climate Change and the Environment

What, no stop at the Christmas tree sculpture or whatever it is? I used to play poker in Wendover once a week way back when I thought that was fun. There is some history there. They did some training at the old AFB there before the atomic bomb attacks on Japan.

Unrelated, we (Morton Thiokol) also did some tests there on the shipping containers for space shuttle rocket motor segments. Simulated lightning. That was fun.

Each week, Grant orders Walmart groceries for pickup at a depot near his home in Toronto. Due to the plastic bag ban, the retailer now packs his items in reusable bags — new ones for each order.

Grant estimates he has acquired about 300 over the past six months.

I can relate, bags have been banned for a while in my area, and I’ve amassed a small fortune in reusable ones since. The usual pattern is to leave a bunch in the car for grocery shopping, gradually use them and bring them in the house and forget to replenish the car stash, then have to buy like four more when I inevitably find myself without any.

Store all of them in the trunk. When the trunk is full, sell the car.

Every state in the continental US is expected to feel a freeze this week, with areas east of the continental divide bearing the brunt, and some areas could reach temperatures as low as -70F.

In these cold temperatures, frostbite can occur in under five minutes, NWS said.

Roughly 150 million people across the US will be forced to face the frigid conditions, posing life-threatening dangers to anyone without shelter from the storms, wreaking havoc on holiday travel plans and possibly straining susceptible power grids.

“The shock to the system so to speak – whether that’s human bodies or power grid – is going to be substantial because we haven’t seen this in a long time,” said climate scientist Daniel Swain, noting that, in general, numbing cold is becoming less common.

Good luck.

We’ve had a shitload of snow so far please take some

no thank you

We had a lot of snow so far in Utah but thankfully it hasn’t accumulated much down in the Salt Lake Valley. Cold AF rn, gonna be a week below freezing. Walks suck. Car’s been sitting 5 days. I hope it starts.

I live in Layton and yeah it’s brutal right now. We like to go paddle boarding and hiking in the warmer months so I’m hoping this snow continues a bit longer. The waterfalls and lakes were terrible last year.

I watch a YouTube couple building a house in the mountains there and its legit nuts how much snow they get up there.
