Hell yeah
I came here to nominate Fawlty and Ted, so good job beating me to it
Game of Thrones
and uh, I recommend we employ the “best version” rule again
Dont we have to take the series as a whole though?
Those last two seasons did happen.
I rewatch most series I enjoy and I have not returned to GOT purely because of how bad I know it turns out
I will be judging the Simpsons on Seasons 2-7.
This is a valid point
Counterpoint: The Simpsons is not a cohesive, continuous narrative.
Yeah, not one arc so it’s easier to judge on different seasons.

Want to shout out parks and rec as their season 3 was the best season of a sitcom I ever saw. It was shortened due to the strike but they had time to fine tune it and none of the episodes missed.
Has anyone nominated The Addams Family or The Munsters? If not, please don’t.
So you have TNG above DS9?
Absolutely Fabulous
Good post. Picked up a bunch that should be added. And some dregs, but that’s ok.
Need to throw All in the Family in as well. Early seasons are top-tier.
I had to think about this a bit and I would agree that you can’t just pretend bad seasons didn’t happen especially if its part of a continuous story. Still, I think the discounting should be small. You shouldn’t let a show be too much a victim of its own success when it sets the bar so incredibly high.
FWIW - I think that “Is it still hilarious now?” is kind of an unfair standard for a sitcom. Nothing stays funny forever. I think it’s reasonable to judge its impact in its time.
Was dropping in here to say this too
Also, first 5 seasons or so of game of thrones… Didn’t see it mentioned.
You really should watch The Golden Girls, Cheers, and Frasier again to see how your statement is untrue. Timeless comedy is timeless even when dated. Burns and Allen is hilarious, even though it’s wildly dated. Gracie Allen was one of the all-time great comedy talents and her humor is timeless. You’re not going to watch Chico and the Man and go, ‘wow, that comedy really holds up’, but the best will.
Most sitcoms weren’t intended to be timeless, and most were intended very much to be of their time and as a comment on their time. Three’s Company probably most falls into that category. Some of the ‘comedy’ is cringe because it had some bad social commentary due to its time, but most of it is elite.
