Micro is one of my favorite posters. I credit him on 2plus2 with having a profound impact on my political evolution and leaving my Republican lifestyle behind. That being said I don’t always agree with him.

That’s fine obviously. I clearly think I’m right, but probably less than 10 people agree with my ideas about forum management, community and moderation. And generally, my politics are very fringe (though more ‘what I want and advocate’ than ‘what I think is realistic’).
I don’t think posters should be required to be good posters. Set ground rules like no name-calling and no hate speech, but otherwise let people be as vile as they want to be towards each other so long as they stay within the rules and if someone can’t handle it, that’s on them.

Yeah, bringing everyone back would definitely not bring an end to old grievances. I assume they wouldn’t be interested anyway.

Well, 6ix would fail on this one.
I’m fine with failing him on that, but simply posting stuff that most people doing want to read shouldn’t be grounds for a ban.
Grunching but I assume the hundreds of new posts in this thread are about how great this new mod team is. People with tears in their eyes coming in and saying “SIR! I’ve never seen such great modding in my life!”

What in my post leads you to believe that? I haven’t taken a single mod action in my tyrannical reign yet.
Right, my grievance with Micro is that he was the spiritual leader of this forum. And he burned that capital by supporting a lot of people who’s sole mission for a while appeared to be creating division and harassing other posters here.
In that way he’s like the Bernie Sanders of UP.

Sure, maybe. I would argue we do actually all own the site collectively and have agency regarding what it is like. Through our own actions. I’ve said for years we are all 30-70 year olds and should be able to self-moderate and thus need no moderators. I actually think most people do a good job of this.
Also I will say, as someone who has certainly had forum enemies, having forum enemies is totally counterproductive. To our own reputation, well-being, etc. I would bet if we took everyone from UP and put us in some conference room for a couple hours we would not dislike each other. All of these constructs exist in our head based on the words we read on our screen and if you lose sight of the fact there is another person on the other side bad things happen. I’ve done it. We mostly all have.

I mean that’s your opinion and that’s fine. Everyone is entitled to one.
Many people over the years have gone back and looked at actual posts and said something to the effect of “I didn’t follow that closely, maybe X was getting a bad rap”. Maybe you should do that (or should have, since so many posts are gone) and get a better idea of the real origin story.
Like Fidget in particular had a reputation as a troll, but man, if you really knew him, you’d assume correctly that he wasn’t just stirring up trouble out of the blue with no justification.

It’s not you personally, I think you’re an excellent poster, I just think someone with so many forum grievances should not be a mod.
The moderators of this message board, otatop, L.Washington, WichitaDM, Yuv, JonnyA, RiskyFlush, and SvenO, are cowards who let abusers dox and harrass other long time posters.

I was around and read/posted through all the disputes. Fidget was far from the only one. You have your perception and I have mine, obviously no one is going to change their mind or go back and analyze the years of history.
You really need to better differentiate someone being a general jerk and someone being a transphobe or racist.
They are in no way similar.
