So the purpose of commonWealth/cuse’s mod actions here was creating dissent within this community in order to eventually drive users there. That’s pretty ugly but almost makes some sense of his ridiculous modding abuse.

If that’s the desired end goal, why is he modding this community, one that he hopes becomes obsolete in light of the new community?

That’s a fine goal. They are allowed to do so. I’m sad about it, because I like UP and i contribute to many threads here to the best of my abilities. But advancing that goal while modding this one (and perhaps even using mods privleges to do so) is very wrong in my opinion.

what proof is needed? They opened a site together based on the idea to create a UP without “captains” (it’s obviously not really a thing, as they will find out inevitably). They’ve done so while CW is a moderator here who is constantly banning people for stuff you all seem to disagree with now (“fuck off” for example).

They may justify being unsophisticated by thinking this is some nothing forum and you don’t need to think that deeply about a place people use for shitposting, but I’d argue that there is a metapolitical principle at work here and thinking about why we justify the existence of moderation on a forum helps us understand why we justify the existence of government in the real world, where I describe myself as a statist who loathes libertarians.

This is exactly why I like talking about this. It’s also exactly why I’ve been called a troll. Well, tbf it’s been troll labels for both: if I complain about my bans then Im trolling by being a baby soft troll baby, but if I say I don’t care and am just using them as a springboard for an actual interesting conversation then I’m trolling by being sneaky and insincere.

But yes, this is precisely it. And, I’m venturing a guess this is also why people have such an aversion to talking about all this. You,ve been consistent in your moderation as statism views. I think I have too, just somewhat less (or maybe they’ve changed, though I doubt it; I just lean slightly more into my dirt bag side). But for most of these dudes, lord no.

It’s like this: I’ve posted the breakfast club meme of the principal before. Everybody has seen that film, and everybody related to one of kids or maybe the adult janitor (we can ignore the criticism of a white centric framing because I went to a black hs and the archetypes are the same) but nobody related to the principal. Or if they did they fought against admitting it. So, this whole issue might be the first time in their lives these dudes had their sense of self challenged and examined in such a way; its low stakes or even a no stakes analog but its highly specific. That’s how it works: one wont get a chance to electric shock people, but they might get a chance to faux shock people in some experiment. And nobody imagines they’d be the one shocking to the point it’d make principal bender blush.

I mean, a few of these dudes seem legitimately salty they weren’t invited to the other forum after mashing that shocker button. Lol imagine if the milgram experiment was a job interview for a conflict resolution counselor position. Just an utter disconnect with how they imagine themselves and how they actually are when faced with a low stakes facsimile of potential power abuse and/or siding with power abuse.
