I’m sorry, I locked the wrong thread. I intended to lock the old one that was approaching 10k posts, as that is a software limitation. Fixed now.
In the log of key moderator ooptions it indicates that Jbro was permabanned at his request. That is not in line with our current rules. He should have been given a cooling off period first.
Why did jbro leave?
This is all so bad for our community.
Jesus.
No idea, I’m grunching. I stopped following the dramabomb threads yesterday. I guess something else happened there.
That rule is stupid. If he wants to come back I’m sure he can create a new account. If he wanted the same username I’m sure we could make it so.
The way we’re running this board is a complete disaster. There are no decision makers and not making a decision is the worst decision when every decision requires a 300+ post threadnaught of dramatic doom. It just means you get to do it again the next week.
I obviously have very different ideas about what this place is for than a lot of the other posters. I think that lack of a concrete mission is behind a lot of this.
I don’t know the answer, but on the one thread i was following there were double digits users dropping in to say “just ban them” referring to the group floating their disagreements.
So i guess mission accomplished.
He didn’t give a reason. I would say “search his posts”, but jesus it sucks that search only returns one post per thread.
You can do something like search this thread for posts by him and order by latest.
https://unstuckpolitics.com/search?q=%40jbro%20topic%3A3439%20order%3Alatest
You can do that for other dramathreads.
Have a guess!
If I were to tell you I’d be banned again.
Jbro’s account is suspended permanently. I think maybe that didn’t use to be an option.
I have his email and will email him because I hope we can stay in touch. If he wants to stay in touch with me or anyone else here he can get his account unsuspended.
We have an actual rule?
AFAIK this has been done before. With cuse it got messy, but that was a weird situation.
From the TOS, we state:
You agree to be responsible for all action taken using your account, whether authorized by you or not, until you either close your account or notify the company that your account has been compromised. You agree to notify the company immediately if you suspect your account has been compromised. You agree to select a secure password for your account, and keep it secret.
Now people can lawyer this up all they want but my interpretation of the TOS is that the website does not own user’s content or their accounts. We are holding users liable for their own content. If someone wants to leave the site permanently, why should they continue to have this liability if they don’t want it? What if they get hacked and someone starts posting child porn all over the place? If I was leaving the site I would want my account banned/closed/deleted as well. And, he is always welcome to come back.
He didn’t want a big deal made of this, so don’t make a big deal of it, in my opinion.
Things blow up on slow news days/weeks. And lots of posters are completely oblivious to all this. It’s trivially easy to mute threads and just talk about what you’re interested in.
Whatever you were talking about, it sure wasn’t the c-word anymore. If you want to do a memoriam for posters who aren’t posting anymore, that’s fine too.
This is obviously untrue. The drama starts in other threads and then gets moved to drama threads so that it doesn’t ruin the main threads immediately… but the main threads have significant squabbles break out and get turned into drama threads pretty regularly or we wouldn’t have drama threads.
The drama threads themselves are tumors literally displacing the creation of good content here. There’s nothing redeeming about them and we never should have had a single one.
Also what a huge joke posting this seriously when churchill is still posting in the COVID thread and baiting people whose opinions I actually care about (because they’ve kept me miles ahead of the curve through a global pandemic, let’s not trivialize it) into wasting a ton of time dealing with whatever bullshit he’s dug out of the interweb muck that morning.
I’ve got him on ignore. Should I ignore CaffeineNeeded because he doesn’t have churchill on ignore? Should I ignore Danspartan?
This is a textbook tragedy of the commons situation and the way those get solved is that the people throwing trash in the commons get punished for it.
I think it is likely this was Jbro’s last post.
As a forum, we generally want Democrats to invoke the nuclear option and take hard lines. Should we be surprised if posters do the same thing with regards to their relationship with this forum?
My belief is that you can’t have a politics forum without the drama unless it is heavily moderated. My personal preference is to have lighter moderation and accept some level of drama, which might sound weird coming from a self-described statist. (But maybe I like drama?)
You should scroll past it. That’s also trivially easy. Jbro just left because of the ban lust and he was a great poster who will be missed.
Presumably that includes the people throwing trash at Jbro.
Can you guys stop speaking in riddles and explain why jbro left?
Read his last 30 or 50 posts.
