About Andor, and lesser Star Wars things

Latest Mando episode is absolutely bonkers, batshit, bananas and I LOVED IT.

I felt like I was watching ROTJ as a kid again.

You all are gonna hate it, I’m sure. But I was grinning the whole time.

Holy crap, those guest stars, although it did feel like Din and Bo were plunked down on a planet from Doctor Who.

It was a buddy cop Clone Wars episode in live action. So campy, and so “classic” Star Wars.

I loved it too

Yup. Just take it as entertainment. Of course at least 1/3 had to be a bad guy/gal.

Holy shit this Ahsoka trailer that just dropped. Not too spoilery, but it does show a sneak peek at some characters that will be showing up this season.

Summarizing the news out of Celebration:

  • Andor season 2 coming August 2024 (the final scene will be the opening scene from Rogue One)
  • The Acolyte is told from the perspective of the Sith characters and is set during the High Republic era
  • Ahsoka trailer, and release in August 2023
  • Filoni is directing an Avengers-style culmination movie that will bring together the Mandoverse shows (Mando, Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew)
  • Skeleton Crew has Jude Law as a Jedi and is basically an Amblin-style show (think Goonies or Stranger Things in space)
  • Daisy Ridley returning as Rey in a movie set 15 years after the sequels, she’s rebuilding the Jedi.

They also showed a timeline that included the Old Republic, which made me happy.

Finally, if you’re gonna watch Ahsoka,

If you can’t be arsed to watch all of Rebels, then I beg of you, based on what I see in this trailer, take 30 minutes to watch Rebels Season 4 episode 12.

Season 4, episode 12. I think it’s going to be really important.

Damn, that list is unbelievable. What a time to be a Star Wars fan.

And +1 on Rebels. It starts out slow and I didn’t find the cast that interesting at first, but it grows on you and there are some great episodes in later seasons.

So the director list for Skeleton Crew is kinda nuts. The Daniels (yes, the Oscar-winning ones) are directing an episode, as well as Bryce Dallas Howard, Lee Isaac Chung and John Watts, among others.

OOH! I forgot!

Dawn of the Jedi movie directed by James Mangold, telling the story of the first discovery of the Force.

The Force was always strong with Titus Pullo

Maybe I’m a psycho but I found it way too funny that Din’s method to solving the malfunctioning droid mystery was to start randomly kicking them. He’s sort of like the dumb jock who has his heart in the right place.

You almost gave me a heart attack making me think I had too wait that long. 2023, folks.

This will be directed by Academy Award-winning documentarian Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who also directed several episodes of Ms. Marvel.

Looking back on some of the shitty movies/shows we got right after Disney acquired SW, I think it was all a blessing in disguise.

Disney thought they could just slap together mediocre content and say “Look! Star Wars!” and people would eat it up. If the sequel trilogy had been merely average instead of terrible then they might have been able to continue with this plan, but it was so bad that they had to do some soul searching.

Now it seems like they’re actually taking everything seriously and hiring some amazing talent.

Andor showed that there’s a big audience for darker, more adult content, so going forward we should also get a solid mix of stuff for all different ages.

Very optimistic take IMO. I feel like every other story I hear from Lucasfilm is them announcing and then canceling yet another movie project. I actually really hope that happens with these Rey sequels, because I think she’s an awful character (nothing against Ridley, she did just fine with what she was given) and I have no need to see her on screen again.

Also I personally feel like outside of Andor, and maybe a few moments from Mando S1/2 that weren’t complete filler, what Disney has been doing since the sequels has exactly been slapping together mediocre content and saying “Look! Star Wars!”. But I’m gonna stop bringing down y’all’s thread and let you discuss in peace, my disappointment with Disney’s choices and writing are well documented and it’s probably not contributing to the thread to rehash it anymore. I’ll stick to posting when I have something positive to say.

I think you could unfuck Rey’s character a bit but I do agree that she’s not the one to carry a movie, let alone a series of them. I go back to my previous post. Just make it good.

If only Jyn wasn’t dead.

Yeah wtf at making one of the best star wars movies with the coolest characters the one where everyone dies.

So at the Ashoka panel today, Dave Filoni said they were consulting with Timothy Zahn on getting Thrawn right.

As an EU person, that should give you some hope.

But you should still watch Rebels, where Thrawn is introduced into current canon
