About Andor, and lesser Star Wars things

That’s a huge part of what made it one of the best. Hollywood ending turns Rogue One into something significantly worse.

This is spot on, imo. But I’m a lolcasualfan compared to most everyone else here.

I’m including the Boba and Obi-Wan series in the “Look! Star Wars!” phase. Obi-Wan just seemed completely mailed in.

It could be wishful thinking, but I think they’ve turned the corner with Andor, I’d be shocked if Ahsoka wasn’t great, and several other of these projects have great teams behind them.

I liked it a lot too. The only episode I was hostile to was #3, and in retrospect it wasn’t the worst thing in the world, my gripe now is given the material that they shot, they could have spliced scenes/storylines a lot better in the first half to make for a more cohesive season. Some episodes were very slim, some were long but without the main characters, but I got 2 > 5 > 6 in terms of which episodes I liked.

Latest Mando…so great! Thoughts (oh boy do I have thoughts that I’m writing down to see if they come true):

First off, I finally realized what story they are telling. It’s the Arthurian legend! Din is Lancelot, Bo is Arthur, she’s gathering her knights of the round, etc. I mean, he swore his life to her. It all makes sense now.

  1. Hmm, are they setting up a Thrawn vs. Gideon beef? I think they are. Also, based on what I saw in the Ahsoka trailer, what we know about the sequel trilogy (literally NONE of these people are around except the son of one of the dudes in the opening Shadow Council scene), I don’t think Thrawn is gonna be the big bad of the final Avengers-style wrap-up movie they have planned. I think he’s gonna take all the mandalorians, etc and head out into wild space where the “something dark” is coming. Which gets them out of the way for the Sequels and keeps them alive for later things.

  2. Sorry sequels haters, they ain’t retconning them. They are filling in the gaps, as they’ve been doing since season 1.

  3. Yesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyes  Welcome to being the parent of a toddler, Din Djarin

  4. Who are the titular spies? I still think the Armorer is sus. She conveniently made it off planet…Also, the guys in the waterworld sail barge thing.

  5. I have an awful feeling that Din Djarin is gonna get mind flayed/memory wiped. Then forced to fight Bo. Why do I think this? Because in the recap they showed the mind flayer, and they are usually quite deliberate with what they put in those. Also, Din’s helmet is RED in the Lucasfilm opener, and in Star Wars, red = bad. It would suck if that’s how the season ended and season 4 is Bo and Grogu’s quest to save daddy…hopefully it will be resolved in the finale. If they have two Star Wars shows end on such down notes within one month of each other (Bad Batch), I’m not sure fans will stick with it. I get that Empire Strikes Back is great, but man, not everything needs their own ESB season :cold_sweat:

  6. Ok, I know I said I didn’t ship Bo and Din, but that was then. Now? After Din basically said he was gonna spend the rest of his life with her? Anchors aweigh! (lol, honestly don’t care if it’s romantic or not, but it’s pretty obvious they’re together forever)

  7. RIP Paz Viszla. Man, Star Wars, why you gotta make two great characters sacrifice themselves in two different shows so close together? It hurts.

the three announced movies aren’t a trilogy. Just three standalones.

I’m not even sure its possible to make a new trilogy that people will accept as “good”. The magic of the original 3 is just not going to happen again.

You definitely could, but it gets a lot harder if it’s a soft remake, or using the same characters.

The nostalgia and familiarity guarantees profitability, but not much else.

I also think the intensity of the fan base means all the weaknesses in the movies are amplified so that its hard to get collective buy in.

It would help to stick to one creative team with a unified vision.

Other fanbases are intense and have fewer wins of late.

Jedi Fallen Order was a great recent game for gameplay/plot. Sequel is out next month.

Rogue one, bad batch, mando, clone wars, andor all came out in the last decade or so.

Just finished the Clone Wars (first watch) and rewatched Episodes I through III. Really enjoyed the Clone Wars after a rocky start!

I’ve seen Rebels and have actually slowly been doing a rewatch of it in preparation for Ahsoka. My finding on second go is that it’s actually a stronger series overall than Clone Wars despite having the lower ceiling.

I’m optimistic that Ahsoka stands a strong chance at being a good show, but I’m way less optimistic about it actually being enough of a success that it does well. I assume that it’s a very low percentage of overall potential viewers who have actually watched the animated series, and while Rosario Dawson is a pretty big name playing the lead, I struggle to imagine there’s a lot of excitement out there for this among people who only watch live-action stuff and have only briefly met the character (and haven’t met basically any of the Ghost crew). The latest season of Mando didn’t do it any favors by being pretty bad and probably further tamping down overall excitement in the franchise right now. Anyway, hopefully it’s great, and if so then hopefully people watch.

Star Wars on X: “Thank you to all the fans who celebrated with us at our @AhsokaOfficial fan events around the world last night! We’re excited to announce that new episodes of #Ahsoka will now launch Tuesdays at 6PM PT, starting with our two-episode premiere on August 22, only on @DisneyPlus. https://t.co/Z2XqAqBiIC” / X (twitter.com)

Definitely glad they’re doing 9 pm ET drops instead of the overnight thing. Early buzz on the show has been positive, but no RT score yet.

Ashoka through two eps

Pretty good, struggling to get excited about Titus Pulo though, rip. It is definitely expanding into new material, which is welcome. Feels like we’re getting a Thrawn reveal this season. Pacing again is a tad slow, the dialogue is a little muted. Not knowing much about the backstory, the half robot in a black helmet is totes Ezra right? Like maybe they’re doing some misdirection but everything in the episode pointed to that.

Ashoka episode 3

Live-action debut of purrgil.

Easter egg: Senator Xiono is the father of Kaz Xiono, the protagonist of Star Wars: Resistance.

The show seems to be walking this line of Ezra being a McGuffin for people who didn’t watch Rebels where you can clearly understand that he has great emotion significance for the characters without needing it explained exactly who it is, while having enough new stuff to not feel like a lot of rehashing of stuff already known by Rebels watchers.

Reader, I screamed.

Also, live action debut of Jacen Syndulla!

I’ve seen people saying the show is “slow” and I don’t get it. there have already been more lightsaber fights and space battles than all the other shows combined, plus a couple movies.

Episode was fine, but in an eight-episode season I sure hope Thrawn isn’t very far away. I want as much time with him as possible.

More difficult to really look forward to Ezra since he was an annoying character in Rebels, but obviously I hope the adult live-action version of him is cool.

Hera was my favorite Rebels character and I wish she wasn’t the afterthought she seems to be in this show. Still hoping her part grows in prominence.

I’m fine with Thrawn being a last episode reveal, leading to a second season.

The way the Filoni-verse operates, I would not be surprised if Hera is more of a background character in this series with plans for her to have a more central role in a future series or season. The central focus of this season of this show seems to be the relationship between Ahsoka and Sabine and an exploration of what it means to be a Jedi. There’s only so much you can cram into eight episodes and I’d rather they be patient and not try to service all corners of fandom in a single season.

This was a bit of filler, but it went down pretty easy, no real complaints. Well one kinda, I’m not vibing with Ahsoka herself that much; a stoic mostly monotone teacher with like three facial expressions is not a super compelling character to me. She is almost too chill, not sure the space suit sequence worked for me either.

I won’t put this in spoilers as it’s just speculation but having not watched Rebels but googled/read about Ezra some, it feels like this Marrok thing is a leveling war. It is so obvious Marrok has to be Ezra given how his fate is the main throughline of the show so far; it is so obvious in fact that it would be kind of lame, so Marrok really should be someone else, but he can’t be a nobody because that’d just be really dumb, but I’m struggling to think of a candidate who would then be satisfying, I’ve heard maybe it’s some form of Maul, that could work I guess.
