About Andor, and lesser Star Wars things

Disney should have followed George’s outline for the sequel trilogy. It probably would have sucked too but at least it would have still been Star Wars instead of the fan fiction around a random with no obvious link to anyone (but lol Palpatine).

George Lucas plot outlines = good.
George Lucas writing and directing scenes and dialog = hahahah

This was an ok offering, 7/10. I feel like if they took episodes 3 & 4, shortened one and lengthened the other, and interwove the storylines, it would have been a fair bit better.

Jar Jar was Haaaa-aaaa-aaaated back then. Still is, but it has cooled a bit. People re-cut the trilogy to specifically remove JarJar.
But I never heard about the guy who played JarJar (Or that anyone even did). Never heard about the voice actor either. JarJar was a cartoon. It was like hating Jessica Rabbit. Don’t blame the audience or public, blame the industry who never hired him again.

The plot threads are starting to converge on The Mandalorian.

Not sure who besides @skydiver8 and myself instantly recognized that cameo. I definitely exclaimed “Holy shit” out loud.

My night of Star Wars content:

Mando thoughts:

  1. My stupid inner kid loved all the campy pirate things this episode. From the opening theme music to the corsair ship with the broadside guns to the ugnaught Mr. Smee. Absolutely ridiculous but it made me happy.

  2. Was that…omg! it’s Zeb! it’s Zeb! That’s THREE Rebels references so far and I am here for it. Don’t be surprised if we see Sabine Wren and/or Fenn Rau show up in the next episode or two. If you don’t know who those people are, then you need to watch Rebels. I don’t care if you think animation is just for kids (it’s not) it’s still amazing content.

  3. Armorer: Actually, both “Ways” are fine, really. Din Djarin: Excuse me? WTF man…

  4. there were some very specific choices used in this episode that I picked up on immediately. First, when Din was speechifying, he said “I know I have no right to ask this of you…” and all of the Mandos reacted. Of course he has the right, he has the Dark Saber, and they know it. Second, Paz Viszla considers Din and Bo-Katan a single unit, saying that the request was “theirs” etc. (they were also sitting incredibly close…hmmm). Look, I don’t “ship” characters but I think they are setting it up that Din/Bo will lead together, not necessarily romantically. Third, Bo still doesn’t consider herself one of them, as evidenced by the language she used during her briefing on the ship (“you lived there”, “you can have a place”).

  5. In Rebels, we saw a faction of Mandos loyal to the empire. Moff Gideon is working with those remnants and/or he was a Mandalorian himself, or a wannabe. That’s the source of the beskar in the dead ship at the end.

  1. apropos of nothing, I love that Mandalorian (capitalized) no longer gets spell checked in windows. This is the way…

Bad Batch thoughts:

watch it. get your soul ripped out. one of the best season finales I’ve seen in a while, for anything. I’m still shook. Season 2 was this show’s Empire Strikes Back.

My wife is away for travel this week, and of course my toddler got sick, so in desperation I added yet another streaming service to our collection and now we have Disney+. Great for my kid, but also pretty great for me, as it turns out, because I’ve been binging Andor and the Mandalorian. What else should I watch? I’ve seen the three trilogies of course, and Rogue one, but not:

Clone Wars
Rebels
Bad Batch
Solo
Obi-wan
Boba Fett

Which ones are the best combo of lore+entertainment? I also see there’s something called the Essential episodes of Clone Wars. I don’t really have the time to watch many seasons of something, so that may be a good idea?

I can only speak to stuff I’ve watched fully, so I’ll say this: Solo is fun enough and any new “lore” about Han it introduces is pretty neutral/unnecessary, it’s worth a watch. Kenobi has a handful of cool moments and a lot of head-scratching ones, and IMO actively makes ANH worse with some of its plot choices. So beware.

Don’t stress too much about continuity. Makes SW much more enjoyable.

A curated list of Clone Wars episodes, followed by Rebels. You’re going to get lore that is going to play into The Mandalorian and future live-action shows and they are good.

Any idea if these “Essential Episodes” on Disney+ are a good curated list?

I, um, don’t watch these shows on Disney+.

Clone Wars is very good but I think watching a curated list from somewhere would be a good idea. The first couple of seasons weren’t great from what I can remember but there’s probably some episodes you need to watch.

The three animated series are all worth it, IMHO.

As a super nerdy fan, I just looked over the “essential clone wars” thing on D+ and it seems to be missing quite a bit if you want the lore. Here’s a list with all the episodes, in chronological order (the series was released as an anthology, which means episode release order was NOT in-universe chronological order, so it can be a bit confusing), ranked based on how important they are. (the first column has a number, the first digit is the season, the second two are the episode number).

So the caveat here is that this list is a bit out of date. With new revelations in all of the newer Disney+ shows, I would say that even a lot of the yellow-coded episodes have moved to blue, but I’d have to do a rewatch again to say which for sure. The thing about Dave Filoni is that he LOVES to make things that seemed like filler become super-important later on. Which is cool, but can also be daunting to new viewers.

Rebels is essential viewing, imho, and Bad Batch has reached Andor-levels of storytelling, especially in the latest season.

I would watch Boba Fett (at least ep. 5-7) before season 3 of Mando.

a note about timeline: Here’s the general order of when things take place:

Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones
Clone Wars (some overlap with RoTS)
Revenge of the Sith
The Bad Batch
Solo (probably overlaps with Bad Batch)
Obi-Wan
Rebels
Rogue One (overlaps some with Rebels)
A New Hope
Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
Mandalorian Seasons 1 and 2
Book of Boba Fett
Mandalorian Season 3

*I realize I forgot to put Andor on here. It’s basically concurrent with Rebels. Rebels starts 5 years before A New Hope, then ends a year before (except the epilogue, which is indeterminate for now)

I recently did a rewatch of (almost) all Star Wars media.

Every second of live action stuff and most of Clone Wars and Rebels. I used the link skydiver posted and watched anything yellow or blue and read the episode summary for everything else. For Rebels, I just used RatingsGraph and watched everything that was 7.0+ on IMDB. Bad Batch is the last remaining hole, but I’m planning to watch that soon. I even read a couple books to fill some gaps. Darth Sidious is incredible and will make the prequel trilogy so much better. I actually quite like Ep. 1 and Ep. 3 is one of my favorites. (Ep. 2 still kinda sucks)

The cartoons were way better than I expected. I had watched S1 of Clone Wars long ago and wasn’t really that big a fan, but some of the later season stuff is incredible. Same with Rebels, I hated almost all of the main group after 6 eps and gave up on it, but glad I returned to it. Sounds like a similar trend with Bad Batch.

This link also helped me out a lot. You can pinpoint exact chronological order for everything.
