The episode set up a personal quest (for those who didn’t watch BoBF), gave some steps that he’s going to need to accomplish as part of that quest, established a likely recurring foe who’s probably going to be an impediment to his quest, and hinted at a bigger picture that might be more important than his personal goal. It was pure setup for the rest of the season.
Started s3e5 (2/3 in, kids/life) it’s fine so far!
I was waiting for baby Yoda to try to eat one of the droid repair critters, not treat it like a stuffed animal toy
Baby Yoda eats the Universe should be the underlying comedy of every scene he’s in. They had him way too interested and cooing at mundane crap. He should be in the background trying to eat stuff in every scene.
And don’t look now, but The Bad Batch is wandering into becoming a decent cartoon with interesting possibilities.
Honestly, episode 11 of the Bad Batch was better TV than the Mando premiere.
I have heard that this half of the Bad Batch is actually fantastic, so we’ll see
pretty sure that’s intentional
Watched BoBF e5-e7.
Pretty damn meh content. e5 was ok then it got progressively worse, but oh well, caught up at least. Those droids in e7 must be the most useless pieces of garbage ever apart from their shield. LOL at not taking out ~a single one of that ragtag bunch. LOL at not having the weaponry to penetrate a wall, grenades to go around barriers, something!
well, no one ever said the empire* was competent. Funnily enough, the Bad Batch, which is showing the transition from Republic to Empire, is doing a decent job demonstrating how the Empire got so incompetent.
*The empire being where all these crime syndicates got their shit from after it collapsed…
BoBF
Yeah I dunno, the fights in BoBF just seem completely stylized to me, which kinda ruins the immersion - even for Star Wars.
And the Skywalker scenes just felt…really empty for me. Very unsatisfying.
Happy that Mando s1 and s2 didn’t feel like that at all, nor Andor of course.
Any prereqs to watching the bad batch? I suppose I should watch clone wars a million times over bad batxch though, right?
clone wars for sure. Bad Batch is basically a continuation in style and themes. They are definitely not afraid to bring back and call back Clone Wars arcs and stories.
You should just watch Clone wars anyway, since a ton of the current live action stuff plays on it as well
If you’re impatient there’s a few articles out there that tried to compile lists of the “important” clone wars episodes. It’s a good series, but some episodes introduce key new characters or set up future story arcs. Others are just one off episodes (while fun) that don’t really need to be watched.
edit: but definitely watch all of Clone Wars Season 7.
Honestly, with Dave Filoni at the helm, literally everything he’s done and is working on tie together. So I’d recommend Rebels, as well, ESPECIALLY for this season of Mando as well as the upcoming Ahsoka show. There is a lot of Bo-Katan back story in Rebels.
I mean, they’ve already directly referenced Rebels in Mando season 3, and it was pretty fucking important for a small scene. Space whales = Ezra Bridger, Thrawn, Ahsoka, Force implications for Grogu, etc
lol, hadn’t even heard of Rebels. Not worthy obviously.
Thanks Koss, 7 seasons of clone wars is prob a bit much for me.
Clone Wars is 133 episodes of around 21-22 minutes, or 44 hours of run time. Season 6 is truncated because the show was cancelled before the episodes were released and a short seventh season was produced that I think covered what they intended for the end of that season. You could probably eliminate at least 1/3 of that to get to the essential stuff, paring it down to maybe 25-30 hours of watch time.
Rebels is actually some of the best Star Wars content out there. Once you get over the animation style, there are some seriously deep themes and implications for the wider galaxy/“grand Star Wars plan”
I also think that the villain of that show is coming back in a BIG way, possibly even in this season of Mando
Mando S3 Ep 2 I thought was an improvement.
He’s so obsessed with his redemption he just went full Leeroy Jenkins into an inhospitable planet he doesn’t know. I’ll be curious to see where they go from here if Mandalore is indeed habitable.
Um what the fuck was that? Literally nothing about this episode worked for me on any level, story, themes, or characters. Who in their right mind thought that the Star Wars viewing public was hungry for 45 minutes of Dr. Evil McGlasses? Yikes.
Amen
I gave up on Mando mid-S2. Now I just check out /r/saltierthancrait once in a while to make sure I’m not missing anything amazing, doesn’t seem like I am.
It was The M(Andor)lorian.
If you didn’t like it, I get it. I love slower character-driven stuff, so I loved it. Of course, I also understand the wider context of what’s going on in the universe (and what went on during the past. Seriously, the Bad Batch slaps) so it was probably a lot more meaningful for folks like me. Filoni is going hard on the cloning stuff right now, across all his media. Also, they are setting up the Big Bad. It’s subtle, which apparently is divisive in Star Wars because it’s not “supposed” to be prestige TV, amirite?
Hot take: Andor is prestige TV, Mando is a kids’ show.
