Ep 12 was pretty solid. You got a space marching band, ghost Fiona Shaw inciting an insurrection, and Casian getting the drop on Skarsgard
Thought it was fine. Heâs building the thing that ends up killing him. I thought I heard in a podcast that Gilroy regretted including the post-credit scene. I could be mistaken though.
Yeah SW has always had that kind of mix of high and low tech concepts that you just have to sort of roll with. You also have to suspend disbelief to imagine that this super techy society still has their currency existing as actual physical tokens that can be stolen and not able to be tracked or traced or re-issued in any way.
Nothing wrong with it, itâs part of why SW is presented as not being the far future of our world, but some shit that happened somewhere else a zillion years ago. They just did shit their way, deal with it.
From an interview with showrunner Tony Gilroy:
âI canât swimâ is such a heroically tragic moment since Kino (Andy Serkis) led his fellow prisoners to freedom knowing full well that he wasnât going to make it out. Do you presume Kino was executed shortly thereafter?
I donât know. Heâs not dead. Is he dead? I donât see him dying [in episode ten].
I think where we leave Kino off is perfect, I mean itâs a nice bittersweet end to his arc, and I think itâs a good decision to leave it up to the viewer to imagine what happens to him. Maybe he decides to jump in anyway and drowns, maybe he goes back in and tries to find a shuttle (or hijacks one when they try to bring new prisoners), maybe he just hangs out and gets captured and thatâs the end of him.
I think itâs better when things like this arenât spelled out.
Itâs the mark of a good story teller to know what needs to have a decisive conclusion and what doesnât.
This apect of things is also a great way to cover up stuff that just fell under the âoops this seemed high tech in 1977 but I guess notâ category, like having to talk into a little lighter-sized mic to communicate with people remotely. I doubt Lucas was going for faux high-tech there, just that it seemed much smaller than a walkie-talkie and might really be what people would use.
Andor
Best SW anything except Empire and possibly A New Hope, although itâs hard to tell anymore whatâs nostalgia and being 7 when you first see something. Itâs not that itâs the best story ever, which is like a B+/A-, and itâs not that itâs the best SW material ever, which is almost an afterthought, itâs that itâs a SW project with a very good story (which is rare anyway) that is for once enhanced by being set in the SW universe rather being dragged down by it (eg into gross levels of fan service). The dialogue and various speeches were exceptional. Can you imagine if they had a real writer like literally at any time during this franchise?
9.5/10

More confirmation that George Lucas sucks at writing dialog, but these actors couldâve pulled off that scene in spite of this.
Gonna let my nerd flag fly here, but the third episode of the new season of the Bad Batch just veered hard into Andor-ish territory. This was not a light-hearted cartoon romp through the galaxy with a batch of misfit clones.
The season premiere of The Mandalorian feltâŚshort. Another live-action link to Rebels with space whales.
Sooo do I need to watch book of boba fett to watch s3 of the mandalorian? given lukewarm reception here and elsewhere Iâm reluctant to use the few hours I have on BoBB.
Just had a quick look on wikipedia to refresh my memory, and I think episode 6 of Book is probably good to watch. Maybe 5 too if you can stomach it.
I can stomach two episodes, an entire season is another matter!
I think the second half was called Mandalorian 2.5 for a reason, so watching 5-7 would mean you didnât miss much for s3. As I recall the last episode felt pretty pointless too though, so I think 5-6 is hopefully enough
Yeah pretty sure Iâm just gonna cancel Disney+ until Andor S2 comes out.
Iâm still going with the theory that BoB E5 was supposed to be Mando S3 EP1 but for whatever reason they re-sequenced things, because this felt like sort of a filler episode which I wouldnât think youâd want for your season opener.
The giant gator fight was weird. The gator appears beached and unable to move on land yet a bunch of Mandalorians decide to stay on the ground and within biting/tail whipping distance? Otherwise I guess it was an OK episode, just underwhelming given the build up.
I will try not to judge by the unattainable standard set by Andor, but this was a pretty disappointing start. Nothing happened, I just donât give two shits about Goku, Pirates of the Caribbean 2 called, they want their Octopus faced villain back. Very underwhelmed.
The relevant episodes tell you what Grogu was up to between seasons and some info on the Darksaber, which seems important to this season. If you donât want to watch the episodes, I can give a more detailed explanation. Iâd consider watching season 3 episode 1 then either asking or watching those episodes if you feel confused.
Had the same exact PoC knockoff thoughts. Whole episode was unnecessary. Just excuses for set pieces.
The donât take the helmet off thing is falling very flat with me.
