2024 North American Eclipse

It’s prob one or a few times in a lifetime for one that is close-ish. If you are willing to travel a long way, you can see quite a few. Apparently some people do this as a hobby.

With the eclipse glasses you can still follow the sun getting smaller pretty well even through some cloud cover blocking the sun. I’m sure a million variables of how thick/high the cover is. Don’t think I appreciated how bright the sun is, even on a cloudy day you’re not going to usually look at where the sun is hiding because it still hurts to look at. No idea what means for the total aspect though

So if youre inside the circle you get total eclipse, and closer to center you are the longer it lasts?

Ive gotten pretty lucky with these. Was in Eugene, OR in 2017 and in mazatlan now. Though wildfire smoke partially blocked the view in 17.

2017 videos seem epic. regretting not traveling for this one.

i think there is another in 20 years.

The next one visible from the US will be in 2033

so book your AirBnB now for Nome, Alaska

Turn around bright eyes :notes:

Champlain Valley area starting to look shitty now. Ugh. Was really hoping we would get a good one.

I got total cloud cover right now circa Ft Worth.

No clouds (well actually looking outside, there are a few) here but only getting 50% eclipse. Got my special glasses. Fished out old phone to use its camera. I don’t think it will be damaged, but just in case.

:sun_with_face: :sunglasses:

Last time around I had cloudy day but managed to have break to see the sun at totality but the clouds themselves looked pretty cool assuming it not just like total thick gray

Still hardly any increased traffic here. It’s actually probably decreased traffic as many businesses are closed, schools closed etc. Lots of people have their yards and lots caution taped off like weirdos thinking we were going to be overrun.

lolololololol probably afraid some minorities are going to show up and attempt to squat their house.

I am near the path but it’s like 95% cloudy today.

Anyone got a good live stream? Maybe some youtube weather person following it like a tornado

Actually, things are looking up dramatically. We might have a great view.

I’m about a normal 2.5 hour drive from totality, I felt very confident in skipping the madness, but I’m regretting it now.

Driving 4.5 hours through traffic to get home, I would have hated myself. Can’t win either way.
