2024 Election POST MORTEM

can he double his net worth in 4 years?

So who’s first in line and how will he get them?

Early Wednesday, investors were already betting that Trump’s win will also be a win for Musk’s major public holding, Tesla (TSLA), sending shares of his electric vehicle maker up 12% in premarket trading. That lifted the value of the shares of Tesla that Musk owns outright by more than $12 billion, which works out to a better than a 10,000% return on the $119 million he donated to Trump.

Tariffs pretty much the same. And he’ll get pushbacks from his rich friends.

Can see him doing hyyuuuge tariffs vs Chinaaarrrr, but not really anyone else.

That will be outsourced as well, I’m sure. I mean, perhaps he’ll give his AG a list of names, but he’s spending no more time than that to strategize how to do it.

No clue. Part of me thinks Obama, but part of me thinks his attention span is too short for that grievance to still be at the top of his list. I don’t follow closely enough to know who he hates most or perceives to have wronged him from moment to moment.

The main problem is that if they do start nuking the filibuster and enacting a lot of their shit, the first order of agenda is to start rigging the system to make sure that by the time people realize what sort of draconian handmaids tale hellscape the country has turned in to, there will be less options to do anything about it.

I think the best outcome and the one I’m hoping for is that it’s just business as usual for the next 4 years and the damage is limited because Trump is inherently lazy and the nutjobs don’t get their hands on enough levers to actually do anything.

Maybe we retake the house now (is there a needle for this?) Maybe 2026 is a blue wave like 2018 was and we stop all Trump shit dead in its tracks. It’s all I’ve got for hope I guess.

I could see where he doesn’t even follow through on personal grievances. He just cares about being seen as a winner, which he now is again, and using the office to enrich himself, which he can again.

I think the best hope is that they do or try to do some wild shit in the first 2 years and that flips the house in 2026 and neutralizes them a bit for the subsequent 2 years.

This is one of many anxieties I have about what’s coming. My wife’s brother and his wife just had their first baby in the US. They are drawing live to a national ban on vaccines. At best, their child will be going to school with vastly more unvaccinated kids. This is a real threat.

It is much more productive to talk in terms of cognitive biases. We all have them, and it’s a less emotionally charged way to come at the problems in the US and around the world.

Where do you all come up with this stuff.

We are drawing live to a lot of shit getting way worse, but let’s live in reality

If the pandemic taught me anything, it’s that only you are responsible for your own health care. There won’t be any kind of national ban on childhood vaccines, and people who want to vaccinate their children will be able to do so. Will polio make a comeback? Absolutely yes. Will some kids die of the measles? You betcha. Will there be grave public health consequences for those who are unable to protect themselves? YEP! But, at the end of the day, it’ll be up to you and your family/friends to protect themselves and their kids, because ain’t nobody else is going to anymore.

I can see Elon having a large influence, but I sort of think RFK Jr. is about to be dropped like a hot potato. Trump got what he needed from him, and he’s not known to pay invoices.

Yeah lol no one is banning vaccines. Most parents will continue to vaccinate. Anti-Vaxxers will still be a thing and there’s only so much we can do about that. RFK actually in charge of shit is frightening as hell though.

Trump is also going to slam into some serious old age decline. He’s older now than when Joe started as President. It won’t be long before he is no longer physically capable of even acting as a figure head President and the chaos will be very dangerous.

I can see Trump offering up RFK Jr. a position. But if he makes a lot of noise and starts overshadowing Trump and creating a lot of negative coverage… well we have a uniquely American unit of time measurement for how long people like that last.

Feels like America as a whole checked out of politics with a note not to be bothered about elections in the future.
