2024 Election POST MORTEM

Nice chart but what really matters is that the average person can see that a blue box of mac and cheese costs 3 times more than it did 5 years ago, that there are more homeless people than ever before begging for change and more scary brown people everywhere you look.

Joe fully maximized the bare majority he was given and was a full throated supporter of unions.

If we treat union members who drifted Trump anyway as rational actors (rather than ā€œdeplorablesā€), they clearly calculated that tariffs and barring immigrants they have to compete with outweighed stronger bargaining power for them.

I mean, thatā€™s probably exactly what heā€™s trying to say about the average personā€™s thought process?

Is the filibuster cooked? Are there any Republican nos on abolishing it?

Iā€™m not sure itā€™s been polled but we still have Murkowski and Collins in the senate as moderating voices. Thereā€™s hope there.

It looks like Michigan will hold in the senate by the thinnest of margins which is huge.

This is true. Most of the trump voters I know are now done with politics for the next 40 months. They wonā€™t thjnk about it directly once.

Letā€™s see how moderating theyā€™ll be under new circumstances. IMAGINE the pressure theyā€™ll come under if they want to say no to olā€™ Donnie this time around. I know Iā€™d fear for my physical safety.

It looks like PA is going too, so 53 R senators. I donā€™t even know who the fourth-most moderate Republican still in the Senate is, which is probably a bad signā€¦

Canā€™t even escape this by just trying to listen to sports radio. Fucking Boomer Esiason shoehorning MAGA talking points into literally every damn topic that comes up.

I guess the good news is that eggs are going to be super cheap now.

Thatā€™s suposed to be hopium???
gl with that.

What we really should be doing now is brainstorming how to become MAGA grifters and cash in on this hellscape

Iā€™m cautiously optimistic that Trump 47 still doesnā€™t really want to actually do anything. Iā€™ll give him mass deportations and all his immigration shit. Thatā€™s really his only thing. And enriching himself. He doesnā€™t really need the senate for any of that.

I think the fight now is all about Project 2025 and the draconian shit in there. The GOP will have people pushing for this shit, and plenty of pushback as well. I believe Trump when he says he hasnā€™t read it, doesnā€™t really know whatā€™s in it, and doesnā€™t care. That tracks with what I know about him.

Anything they do that makes him look ā€œbadā€ heā€™s going to fight them on a bit. We need to make sure that anytime the GOP pushes something wildly unpopular that itā€™s very well known thatā€™s the case.

Itā€™s baked in that he doesnā€™t care and doesnā€™t actually want to work on anything. Heā€™ll still golf all the time. The problem this time around is he will be surrounding entirely by people who do want to enact the worst shit possible, and are highly highly motivated to do it. There is nobody to stop them.

Honestly I think if they eliminate the filibuster it will be good in the long run. Governments have to be able to legislate. Maybe Iā€™m still stuck in old frameworks, but if the Republicans actually pass legislation it seems easier to pin it on them when itā€™s bad rather than when they do things by much more attenuated means.

thatā€™s funny, my 3rd or 4th thought this morning was to think about seeing if i could get my account here nuked.

I can see him getting a one-page exec summary presentation from some McKinsey nerds, not really paying attention and telling Stephen Miller to sure, go ahead. But yeah, thereā€™s literally no way heā€™d read the entire thing or even the summary himself.

Well, he will definitely spare time and attention to go after all the people he thinks wronged him. And it doesnā€™t seem likely this time that he will have people around him who will use restraint.
