2023 Israel Conflict - Ground Forces Enter Gaza

I would make a thread but not sure of an appropriate title. So if someone wants to do it who has more confidence than I, go for it.

@Yuv prayers for you, your family, and everyone involved in this mess.

Whatā€™s the end game for Hamas/Palestine here? I mean, Israel is just going to roll over Palestine - there doesnā€™t seem like there could ever be any favorable outcome for the Palestinians on this.

Some discussion they did this to derail the Israeli/Saudi peace process. I guess they figure once Israel is at peace and friendly with all the Arab states they really will have no support outside of Iran.

I think this is right. They were also already facing a very unfavorable outcome (Israel expanding settlements at an increasing pace and taking Palestinians land with essentially no consequences), so itā€™s not like they had too much to lose with blowing up the status quo. Could have just decided theyā€™d rather go down quickly with a fight, than slowly get squeezed with dwindling support.

fwiw Hamas has little to do with the West Bank and there are no settlements in Gaza.

This government is an atrocious thing and the West Bank settlers are mostly scum of the earth, but thereā€™s a lot of misconception as to what Hamas goals and views are. Itā€™s not anything as simple as 67 borders = Palestinian land.

Not for long!

Does Hamas have any chance here? I am bit confused on the goal.

Stay safe yuv.

Iā€™ve been in the bomb shelter longer than every previous round combined. This is a completely new level

What is the bomb shelter situation in Israel? Are they just all over the place in preparation for exactly this type of thing? How crowded are they (i.e. people/m2)?

Fucking hell. Love you yuv. Hope you and yours stay safe.

I have one in my apartment. All new ones have. There are public ones as well very close but thereā€™s no way i can get to one in time as I live on the 7th floor. We are sleeping in it today.

Luckily there are plenty of places for Gazans to go so theyā€™ll definitely be safe

Someone correct me if Iā€™m wrongā€¦

Hamas is Sunni, and Hezbollah is Shiā€™ite right? I thought Iran only supports Shiā€™ite militias/terrorist orgs.

Today alone will end up with more Israeli casualties than the entire Six Day War, which was fought against like 19 countries. I canā€™t imagine what Bibi has to do to win confidence here but itā€™s gonna get sickeningly bloody.

Hamas is still holding at least 2 kibbutzim that I know of. Itā€™s a complete massacare over there.

Exact numbers are still vague but I think the majority of the casaulties are from that rave party that had 3k people. Also plenty of DJs from abroad. Still hundreds missing.

Iā€™m still trying to wrap my head around the logistics. For example is there just one large shelter for everyone in your building or does every unit have itā€™s own shelter in the basement(?).

For people staying at a hotel, they just pack all the guests into one large shelter that is part of the building?

I have an ā€˜enforced safe roomā€™ in my apartment. Every apartment in the building has one. Itā€™s just a room in the house that has one regular door and one extremely heavy concrete door that you can shut and create a vacuum. Steel windows etc etc.
