At this point, feels like the :harold: emoji should be replaced with a McCarthy version.

So house dems were faced with a choice between somebody they don’t like and an unknown person who might well be super horrible, eh? Wonder what that feels like.

If there any Trump-level negotiators here, would it be better to make an offer here or force these guys to make their own offers, which you just refuse one after the other until they get in the ballpark? Or what?

If it’s anything like sports you ask for a bunch of policy concessions, both major and minor as well as some draft picks and swaps.

As I understand it, if the Speakership is vacant, the House can’t move on to any other business. So, let Gaetz do his thing and let the government shut down until at least some Republicans are desperate enough to do a power sharing deal.

Opinion Column
Newt Gingrich: Republicans must expel Matt Gaetz

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/10/03/newt-gingrich-matt-gaetz-remove/

Former House speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), a liberal Democrat with whom I disagree on almost everything, perfectly captured Gaetz’s childish behavior in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday. Gaetz “has no sway” or influence in Congress, Pelosi said, “except to get on TV and to raise money on the internet.” Pelosi told Tapper he was “wasting [his] time on that guy.”

Split the republican party NOW

So what’s the status right now? There’s a motion to remove McCarthy, and they’re voting to table/kill that motion?

Looks like that’s about to fail (213-206 nay right now), but I’m not sure what happens next. All Democrats + 10 Republicans against.

Before the House votes on the resolution to remove Mr. McCarthy, they will first consider a “motion to table,” or kill it. That motion will be decided by simple majority — as will the actual resolution to remove him, if the House moves on to that step.

Also confused. I’m watching but there’s no commentary so :man_shrugging:

So it’s officially dead, and now they’re going to vote to remove him? Is there any reason to think the votes wouldn’t be lined up exactly the same way as the table vote?

Democrats decidedly not in disarray.

I don’t care for this Bob Good character.

I had to turn down the volume on him 3 times.
