Nah, he got off on that.

Right wing can take a reasonably big victory here if they can learn to say yes. The concessions McCarthy is giving likely will allow them to hold the country hostage on a number of key votes, potentially impeach Biden, etc.
Speaks to the question up thread of whether weâd have liked the progressive caucus to be more aggressive at pushing their agenda. The answer is yes, although I dont think theyd have had the same level of success because Pelosi would have been faster to cut a deal with moderate Republicans and cut them out.
The problem for McCarthy is that even with the concessions true goblins like Gaetz/Boebert/Good might just be willing to sit and vote no indefinitely.
Yeah theyâre going to hand the keys to the lunatics. The question will be how many of the (relatively) non-lunatics will join democrats to prevent things like default, impeachment, etc. And then I guess how much it will help dems take back the next house I guess? Well if thereâs one thing we can count on, itâs that the democrats will not squander any opportunity to improve their lot.
As soon as McCarthy makes a deal with Democrats he faces a vote to remove him as speaker. He wont be cutting those deals.
yeah this seems likely⌠with any kind of low no confidence threshold it seems like there will be zero bipartisan efforts by mccarthy for fear of immediately getting recalled.
Do they even care though? It seems like the MAGA wing is perfectly happy with the government never doing anything. They get more personal satisfaction from owning the Libs and owning the RINOs than they fear things like the defaulting the governmentâs debt. Theyâre morons and if they have any political beliefs at all the default of the Federal debt and all the damage it will bring will just be âproofâ to them that the Big Government doesnât work. Like if you threaten Boebert with the facts about what a government default would look like then her reaction will be âdonât threaten me with a good timeâ.
Yes. They want the power to be able to blow it all up unless their right wing policies are enacted. This compromise gives them some levers to do that.
Seems like their core right wing policy is to gum up the works of the government to prove the government is dysfunctional. If they can achieve that just be refusing to ever say yes then they might just go that. Immature obstinate bullies are not known for their negotiation skills.
LMAO
they wonât get actual policies enabled since they canât do anything about the senate or override a veto but they can just hold everyone hostage and prevent anything from moving at all.
Yep, thats where a lot of this is headed. Just outrageous demands that can never be met and we are reliant on the backbone of K McCarthy to get things done. Should be a good Congress as we expected.
What time is the next vote, do we know?
Noon (following the illegal prayers and a few terrible speeches).
Still seems like this heading for a day of McCarthy losses, although perhaps by fewer votes
