I got one of these letters a year or two ago from some shitty law firm from Philly, I think. It was some obscure medical debt I supposedly hadn’t paid. The letter said something to the effect of you owe $300, we aren’t filing a lawsuit, if you don’t pay in 30 days we will take collection action. Then there was some number to call or maybe email. I called/emailed (I think I emailed so there would be a paper trail) and told them I had no recollection of the debt, but I’d happily pay if they could send me documentation to prove I owed it. They sent me some letter after saying they’d forwarded my request to the company and were closing out the “matter.” Never heard from them again. If I ever go postal, I’m going after the people running a firm like that.
