My daughter is 12 and I feel like her friends are usually more mature than their mothers.

I think that has far more to do with the economics of housing than maturity

Yea I think this is right. Cost of housing and student loans vs wages for anyone that isn’t STEM = nearly impossible to get on your feet as a 20something. I really do think older generations don’t realize how difficult it is for them.

Not that there isn’t a current of overprotectiveness, certainly when you see the type of shit that dominates social media and the way some parents overreact to it. I just think it’s way more about economics.

It’s like the whole “participation trophy” trope from 10 or 15 years ago (which was always more about making parents feel good than about the kids, anyways).

If you get out of the 'burbs you will still find lots places with unattended children wandering about their neighborhoods doing kid things. The teenagers seem fine too. I was recently driving by a high school that has just got out and there were about 100 kids walking away from campus knowing how to get home without a school bus or ride from mom and dad.

Rereading that paragraph, I sound like a predator. I swear I don’t own a white van.

Uhhh completely untrue ime. I’ve seen way more kids running around by themselves in the burbs

Edit: shit I moved to the burbs so I could have my kids run around without me

*shrug* whenever I drive through the 'burbs the streets are empty and the kids are in fenced back yards.

I have absolutely idea who this is, but I did know that he has a big dick.

Recently moved closer to where I grew up. My parents still live in same house. I drove by the school I went to and was in disbelief seeing the line up for cars. I remembered all of us lined up for our busses after school. It was a great day if you got picked up or got to ride home with a friends parent.

Yea when at my parents house there’s definitely no kids playing outside. We used to be outside riding bikes, playing street hockey, capture the flag, backyard football everyday. Kinda sad. People still use school buses though.

Good luck with the snow incoming buffalo

Most homeless can spend most nights in a homeless shelter, often for free or for a symbolic price (~€1-€2), there are a couple of these shelters in different parts of the city. Most homeless spending the night outside choose to be outside or are going through some mental issues at that moment. There aren’t really homeless with tents in the urban areas.

Does anyone have experience playing poker in the Scottsdale area? I’m going for a long weekend in a few weeks and noticed the Airbnb is only a couple miles from Talking Stick.

Looks like they spread 2/3 ($1-500) NL, which is what I’d play.

I would say the Talking Stick 2/3 game is pretty soft but can be somewhat aggressive. It’s the lowest NL they have so it’s full of recs and even some beginners, as well as plenty of Scottsdale people with money to burn. It’s a large room (~60 tables) and usually busy, and has very good food available. One downside it that they have temporarily moved poker to a large “tent” which is separate from the main casino so there’s no way for the poker-curious to accidentally find their way to your table.

For a more laid-back vibe, head ~20 miles south to Lone Butte. Dealers and staff are friendlier, they spread 1/2NL which is usually pretty soft and very passive. Also I believe the rake is lower (max4+2 vs. 5+2 at TS). They also have 2/3 and sometimes 3/5. For some reason the max buyin for 2/3 at Lone Butte is $1K if you’re looking for deeper stacks.

Looking forward to trip report!

Thanks! I’ll prob start at TS as it’s just so close by to where I’ll be.

I’ll follow up with a report on how much money I lose.

Southern California people help me out here. Aren’t the port of Los Angeles and the port of Long Beach in essentially the same place?

i guess depending on what you mean by essentially, but they’re like a few miles from each other.

fun fact, if you combined LA + LB ports somehow they’d still be 9th in the world

I’m guessing they are as close together as whatever is included in the “Port of New York/New Jersey” so it seems like it would be fairer to compare that to the combination of Los Angeles and Long Beach instead of making a story about how New York is the biggest port.

One is in the San Pedro which is actually part of the city of Los Angeles. The other is in Long Beach. But yeah they but right up against each other.

I heard that together they’re the second biggest port in the world.
