2022 LC Thread—New Year, New Thread

I would leverage the money by doing something I really enjoy that I could make money doing. What that is I don’t have a good idea of atm but I would for sure come up with something.

The American dream is a lot more unattainable in some big ways due to the costs of housing, education, etc. But there’s also the part of it that we make unattainable with ever increasing demands. Do you really need a 3,000 SF house? Do you really need to fly halfway around the world twice a year for a vacation? Do the mountains of consumerist crap delivered to your doorstep really make anybody happier than they would have been 25 or 50 years ago without it?

I’m with you except the flying around the world point. That is literally all I want to do with life, travel and experience the wonders of this planet and the cultures that inhabit it.

You can in my state. It’s state-by-state though.

And yea this is a good point and is probably one of the reasons lottery winners end up unhappy. The family and friend pressure has to be ridiculous.

Come on, man. There are downsides, no doubt, but if your choices are burning the winning ticket or cashing, you are 100% cashing it.

Since all tickets have the same odds then isn’t the only strat to avoid duplicating other people’s tickets? I’ve only played this thing twice and I always have them RNG the numbers but when I annihilate this jackpot tomorrow I’d rather not split it twenty ways with a bunch of merely lucky mfers who think they have a supernatural relationship with the number seven

This and if being wealthy really becomes unbearable you can donate it all to charity. For some reason wealthy people, even the ones who are well-known, don’t do that and stick to being insanely rich.

I’m not really objecting to that, just pointing out that what the people consider necessary for a good life keeps expanding. It’s not a fixed target, and we often seem to define the American dream as something that’s just out of reach for most people.

2nd time in an hour I’ve seen “American dream” referenced on this site. … I might have made tje other mention, I dunno… but a thread on what it is today could be interesting

Sure, but also think about how much you could get making a YouTube video of lighting a fake $900M (whatever the post tax amount) on fire.

Discussion of deep fakes and the metaverse needs to be a thing

If I win I am buying a modest house on the ocean. Helping friends and family. Then putting 90% in a trust that I will spend the rest of life giving away.

Imagine the good you could do.

I saw a deep fake porn of Cameron Diaz last night and it was shockingly good. We are not far from not being able to tell the difference.

I’d put the $1Mil towards retirement. Maybe lower the rent on my tenants ever so slightly.

If the American dream weren’t always just Out Of Reach then it wouldn’t be a dream. My dream is for a voice dictation app that doesn’t randomly capitalize words

And the ones who do donate the bulk of their wealth usually wait until they are dead.

It’s crazy that if you win close to a billion dollars and hand out five million dollars to friends and family, that some of them will complain, and never stop unless the money is all gone.

What do you think it would cost for a modest, beach side home in Canada?
