That’s amazing, but I will raise you Michael Jordan, The Method Man, Coolio (RIP), B-Real, LL, and Busta coming together to do a track for a children’s movie. 90’s hip-hop was ridiculous.

People praising Kanye as an amazing rapper are objectively clueless about hip hop. 30-45 year olds, white people included, are his demographic. Those are the majority of the people that would have listened to his stuff as it came out.

fwiw, I agree with this, but it misses something critical. I mean, Kanye is clearly a whole lot worse than a jackass, which is what Obama dubbed him, and I think the worse Kanye recently reveals himself to be, the easier it is for (white, GenX, whatever) dudes on internet boards to trip over themselves claiming they always thought he was garbage. But, I mean, most of the folks in the world of hip hop that those same dudes adore would laugh at the idea that Kanye is garbage. Pretty sure most of them have called him a musical genius at some point.

It’s when you get Kanye on a nice tight minimalist beat like this that you realise how bad he is at MCing. His verse on this is nothing short of terrible.
I can get behind the take he was best at producing, and a lot of the best bits on his best songs aren’t his own parts.
I think it’s likely that the first time I ever heard of Kanye West was “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.”
