2022 LC Thread—New Year, New Thread

St. Louis says soda. I guess that makes them East Coast.

That’s just realism.

But St. Louis is supposidly the “Gateway to the West” and the only thing most people know about it is that big arch which is meant to commemorate US westward epansion (or genocide, I guess).

Yes, St. Louis clearly ensconced in in the midwest. But its residents are East Coast wannabe Catholic school mama’s boys who say sodahhh and qwatahhh and have mediocre BBQ that they think is actually good and still haven’t gotten over the '85 World Series. THERE WAS ONLY ONE OUT WHEN SUNDBERG SCORED THE WINNING RUN FUCKOS. If Jack Clark could catch a popup and Darrell Porter wasn’t so hepped up on goofballs that he gave up a passed ball, then you’d have a case.

Kansas can’t be considered anything but the midwest. It’s the flattest, most middest, most nothingness point in America along with Nebraska. Might as well replace them with a loading screen.

For me the “Midwest” refers specifically to the landscape that is mostly boring, but fertile. Areas that the US converted to real estate because there was real “value” there, specifically agriculture. The “West” is the essentially uninhabitale desert that was conquered because we just couldn’t quit the habit and the idea of the native population having anything at all was intolerable and an affront to god or whatever. In that formulation, most of Kansas is a midwest as you can get, but the western part is a transitional area.

Basically look at the county boundaries - if the map looks like a checkerboard you are in the Midwest baby.

“Sales don’t make you the authority/ It only means you sold out to the white majority.”

I think that graphic is super confusing. A lot of people are going to think that Voyager is on the edge of a black hole.

The Midwest is whatever is underneath you while you thumb through SkyMall.

Skymall still a thing?

One of my great regrets in life was not ordering the integrated hot dog cooker and bun warmer appliance.

This is what someone from california thinks the midwest is.

WTF at Ohio being midwest? Thats so far north east I had to check if it was part of New England or if its one of those weird places where Canada is actually south of it.

If your parents watch Fox News you’re in the Midwest

Oh shit. Looks like I don’t have to suffer any longer!

I remember it being much more expensive in the Skymall mag.

Ohioans love to think of themselves as the Midwest as it has largely positive associations. Sounds a lot better then the Rustbelt.

The pioneers called it the Mid-West to convince themselves that they had made if halfway to California. It’s not based on maps and geography and whatnot.

Uhhh,

I have not lived in St. Louis for many many years, but I don’t think anybody there gives a crap about KC. It’s like SF hating on LA. It’s not a rivalry if only one side cares.
