2022 LC Thread—New Year, New Thread

I predict that Chapelle will ultimately go full Lenny Bruce and ultimately will act will devolve to where he is just angerly reciting transcripts from zoning hearings.

Chappelle = South Park

The funny stuff, which was hilarious, was never anywhere near as deep as they got credit for. Even Chsppelle’s stuff on race was mostly just silly stuff.

With South Park, the writers just got high off their own good press and tried to become full on satirists despite having nothing to say. With Chappelle we just get shock and disappointment that he’s transphobic when “people are too easily offended” has been his one note for the past decade.

Want to quote this in the “conservatives report overall happier lives than liberals” thread with like, what does Larry the Cable Guy have to say? The answer, obviously, is “Git er done!”

It never occurred to me until I was in college that the duplex next door, or the one my aunt owned and that my parents lived in, would not have been allowed in that neighborhood. And I’m someone who took an interest in how cities are planned and designed. So I’m willing to bet very few of my neighbors knew that either of those buildings was a nonconforming structure. They just were . They were as part of the neighborhood as any of our houses, and no more objectionable.

But they didn’t get that way through immaculate conception. At some point, we had a process that allowed them to be created. And that process produced neighborhoods that were a bit messy, sometimes unpredictable, imperfect, but in service of becoming resilient and high-quality places.

Although living situations that have been part of my life—upstairs from my aunt, or renting a backyard cottage from a retiree—were nonconforming according to the zoning code, I believe that they are viewed by a large majority of Americans today as neither socially deviant nor undesirable. And furthermore, that this includes most of the people you and I have been told are “the NIMBYs” in my community, and yours.

I believe this is the best case to make to the persuadable yet conflicted majority—a number which includes many city councilors and local opinion leaders. We all have lives that don’t fit in a box, and our built environment shouldn’t fit in one, either. But we’ve been forcing it into a box for so long that to change now will mean we need to re-learn to tolerate some uncertainty, and resist the impulse to regulate it out of existence.

This person has clearly never lived in any post-war suburb.

I’m definitely in the running for guy-who-doesn’t–enjoy-things-the-most in this forum.

I’m going to disagree on this one article. It’s 90% just quoting the guy with the obvious implications of kink shaming him. Dreyer’s value over the average religious finger wager is when he writes himself and his own words betray his own horniness and obsessions, and rote religious finger wagging is what this mostly is.

The 10% of the article that Dreyer does write does hit on the theme that Chapo talked about in that Dreyer only sees civilizational downfall in sexual perversion terms. We’re in Weimar Germany because someone in America has a dog fetish, and not right wing street gangs or elite lawlessness

Yeah it’s not his best work, I guess you already need to be a Rod fan - although I don’t think most religious finger-waggers bother writing a piece about the new “Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition Deputy at the Department of Energy”. I mean it’s not exactly SecState, is it.

hey dumbass, they’re not your friends, they’re the yachts friends. ie, if you didn’t have the yacht they wouldn’t talk to you

Does Haralabob actually own a yacht?

At least we’ll always have this. Still hilarious 18 years later.

I can just imagine Charlie Murphy telling his stories around the set. The genius moment was whoever said - hey we should put these in the show! And then genius on top of that to get Rick James to tell his side.

A quick look through Twitter shows he is definitely hanging out on a boat with his dog in and around Thailand. I didn’t see any photos/video of the boat by itself and am too lazy to look further, so fredd-bird snopes is going to rate this “true”

I think we can safely say that’s not a yacht.

Can we?

Wikipedia

To be termed a yacht , as opposed to a boat , such a pleasure vessel is likely to be at least 33 feet (10 m) in length and may have been judged to have good aesthetic qualities.[1]

10m yacht? GTFO.

Ain’t no one getting yacht friends from a 10 m yacht.
