2020 Post-Election Thread

Honestly I hate to be that guy but if we could somehow move this thread away from “who will win what state in the fucking 2024 election” discussion that would be swell. We’ve been following this election for 1.5 years maybe pick it up again in 2.5 years?

What did you expect the discussion to consist of? This is separate from the main election thread. And applying what happened this time to the future seems like it is one of them main points. Look at the OP. Lots of it is specifically about the future.

Man, our house is on fire right now, this election was an alarm. We cannot wait for four years and then figure out how to unfuck the systemic failures of the Democratic Party.

You guys wanna drink champagne go ahead but we’re on to Cincinnati.

Most important thing right now is probably doing everything possible to unrig this shit, but I’m not sure that’s even possible. Alternative reality media is quickly following in the path cleared by opioids as rural areas seem completely lost. I’m not sure there’s a bottom on that. Gonna have to hope this was a one-off cult of personality that can’t be easily replicated. If you want more fear porn we’re a badly-timed market correction away from get wiped out again.

Idk but maybe not more election stuff, just for today.

O,K grue. Since you substantially reduced my Minnesota anxiety, I’ll abstain from this thread for 24 hrs. Just for you.

2020 was basically just a do-over of 2016 except the Dems had a candidate who was much less despised than the megaheel the right had been putting work into since the 90’s. None of the chaos and fuckups and incompetence and norm-breaking and naked Nazism of the past four years moved the needle at all. Who knows what happens when they find someone who’s more savvy about dogwhistles and social media than Trump.

Have you watched The Boys? America fucking loves fascist ideas, we just don’t like the word “Nazi” for whatever reason.

Saying ga is some crazy outcome is a terrible take

I think the right way to look at GA is how much more right it is that rest of the nation. It’s definitely been trending left, and made a big leap in bother 2016 and then decent move this year. Hopefully this continues.

2004 - +14
2008 - +13
2012 - +12
2016 - +7
2020 - +4 (or so depending where national votes end up)

Florida on the other hand has been drifting right for the past few elections.

Omfg I’m about to poast itt. Look at VA, I don’t remember the last time Rs won it but I’m going to risk it and say W got it in 2004. Now it’s a mortal lock for Ds. Colorado sorta similar. If in the next four years GA increases in the number of educated and younger people who live there, ldo it favors Democrats.

eDems will never learn. They wouldn’t have gotten more Rep votes this time around if they nominated Mitt Romney…

I’m old enough to remember Biden endorsing a Kerry-McCain ticket…lol…

Biden: “I think that this is time for unity in this country, and maybe it is time to have a guy like John McCain — a Republican — on the ticket with a guy he does like. They do get along. And they don’t have fundamental disagreements on major policies.”

I think this was political strategy for the most part. There are a lot of people who complain about the current partisanship and both sides etc and I think the Biden campaign was trying to go after them.

Problem is it failed massively and people voted partisan.

Hopefully the people around him point it out to him that the whole working with Republican thing didn’t work out, and Republicans still voted Republican in huge numbers

Exit polls are notoriously shit, so I’m very interested in seeing more thorough breakdown on voting data from this election.

Like Biden dropped some of his working with Republicans shit when he realized it wasn’t popular in his own party. He’s malleable and its certainly possible to influence him.

I think Obama/Kamala will be the biggest influences, and while they suck I think they will steer him away from that iceberg for the most part. Obama recently talked about nuking the filibuster, so I think he’s woken up to the insanity of the GOP and inability to work with them. Plus Trump already nuked all the norms, so it wouldn’t be the first black president having to nuke them. I definitely think we will see Biden push harder than most expect, although not even fucking close to enough.

I’m more worried about general DNC leadership, leadership in the house and the senate. Just complete and unbelievable incompetence.

I have previously thought that all this wrestling stuff your generation talks about in politics was relatively silly and harmless numbskulls who still watched this stuff meant for children when they were adults (lol Dids), but you guys just can’t get enough of it. Maybe the Dems either do have to just nominate The Rock. Maybe it’s professional wrestling that ruined politics in America. Maybe if something should be banned, it’s wrestling, not Facebook.

There has always been professional wrestling in some form or fashion. It’s a very very very old type of entertainment that has been around since the first time some people in the first farming village improvised a skit for the entertainment of their friends and family.

When people my age talk about professional wrestling we’re really talking about that goofy showmanship bullshit that is amazing when you’re a kid… and probably amazing to watch your kid watch as a parent but I haven’t tried that yet.

Everyone knows this. They had the goofy showmanship when I was a kid and when my Dad was a kid. Wrestlemania apparently broke your brains though.

We used to have wrestling on the telly in the UK when I was a kid but it’s not a thing here any more and out of politemess have never commented on WWE but it’s just really weird that adults are into this.

Not saying we’re innocent - far from it - we seen to have national hysteria when a new Dr Who is revealed or Harry Potter something something.

Humans are regressing.
