Your favorite one hit wonder + OHW semantics

Came to poast “I Hate Everything About You” by Ugly Kid Joe, but then I looked them up and they had a couple of double platinum albums and scored at least one more chart hit with their rocking cover of “Cat’s in the Cradle,” so no dice.

Guess I will fall back to here

Didn’t even know there was a music video

That’s an interesting corner case. I guess this was his only hit, but he was also an international movie star, with singing being his side hustle/hobby. I say that doesn’t qualify as OHW.

This one for me:

Also this (bit different): Basia maybe not quite ohw, but close enough to be worth a listen for this awesome song. Beautiful voice!

No way they qualify. I’m not even sure that’s their most famous song.

booger, you and I come from different lands.
I’m Free is goat. You USAians went w the follow up not-quite-so-good track.

I’m just looking for excuses to showcase great tunes.

Swayze still pops up in unexpected places for me. I found out literally this week that he was an uncredited dancer in Toto’s “Rosanna” video

He actually was posthumously awarded with the Rolex Dance Award.

Probably doesn’t count since she had many chart hits with ABBA but afaik this is her only moderately successful solo effort

I think the one-hit-wonderee should not be famous from other endeavours before having their hit. And much less so from a previous band engagement. They should be totally unknown before, and then forgotten afterwards; like this White Town guy:

That’s a different distinction than I have always made wrt OHW. I’m thinking of “hits” strictly as “chart” hits, not “this isn’t the only reason they are famous.”

Like if we are looking at it that broadly, Eddie Murphy’s one chart hit does not qualify.

“Hunger Strike” by Temple of the Dog regularly appears in OHW lists I have seen, but they were a supergroup composed of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden members

This is an interesting case. You could argue, as this is a group effort, and the group itself, albeit composed of famous members, was previously unknown, this could qualify as an OHW.

I actually didn’t know this song, but that’s beside the point lol.

That song is a staple in my Classic Alternative playlist
