Mounjaro actually showed more weight loss than semaglutide, but it was a secondary outcome for the study not a primary outcome. It’s off-label for weight loss. Wegovy (name brand for the weight loss form of semaglutide) is actually fda approved, so they might cover it.
Do non-doctors have to be a certain amount overweight to get the prescription?
This is my problem 100%.
I think anyone who is obese qualifies. Problem is that insurance doesn’t cover weight loss stuff frequently. I got this from someone who tried it and didn’t like it. Getting it covered will be an issue for me
I mean, is the magic pill efficacious for long term weight loss? Diets prove that a lot of things can work if your time horizon is short. I have done no research obviously, but figured folks who have would be able to point me to relevant resources.
This seems insane given all the correlations between health care needs (and costs) and obesity.
100%. There was a long fight over weight loss surgery too. It likely will take regulation or these meds going generic for that to happen. Looks like that would be 2033 (lol)
Any idea how much it costs w/o insurance? Are we talking $300/month or $10k/month?
I’ve been listening to The Drive podcast. Super illuminating on weight loss.
Basically don’t get fat. Your body will always try to get in that ballpark through some combination of increased hunger, decreased resting metabolism, and possibly even greedier fat cells (not proven, but some evidence).
He asked one of his guests: “Let’s say I have a pair of identical twins. One gained and then lost a bunch of weight. The other stayed steady the whole time. It’s been three years and the formerly fat twin has been super diligent and kept the weight off. Are they now the same person?” The expert answered no
But it’s been cathartic for me to hear that yes, it’s fucking hard to lose weight and keep it off, and to really understand why it’s so hard. I’ve kept 30 lbs off for a few years now - w/o testosterone. Mostly by getting addicted to exercise and not eating after 6pm. Hoping I can somehow lose another 30 and keep it off.
1k roughly
calorie deficit doesn’t have to feel terrible in my opinion. they used to for me, but now I kind of enjoy cutting
I enjoy it except for the part where everyone I know IRL or online immediately starts conspiring against me and dropping subtle attacks on me with everything they do and say. And then my brain runs endless war games scenarios over what I should do or say in response to all these attacks, and I’m powerless to even slow it down.
Other than that calorie deficit is great.
Hint: when you see my flip out on Melkerson for being Melkerson, I’m dieting.
i think people that get this probably aren’t managing their blood sugar well - idk though. I used to get that a bit and just eat an egg or an apple whenever I feel edgy, they’re low calorie and very satiating
Sugar is super regulated in your body. Your blood sugar is staying stable unless you have diabetes or something weird
In positive news. I’ve been successfully losing weight.
Mrs R is away.
it seems like I have a go to approach that works for me. (Its worked several times before) of just keeping the house empty of snacks, and eating just high quality meat and vegetables.
Mrs R wont eat that. And keeps snacks around.
She never puts on weight. But theres definitely relationship food dynamics that I havent solved for yet.
Elbow still playing up. Considering shelling out for the ergbike. I know I can sustain regular cardio if I can do it at home. Not being able to row has killed me for the last two year.
Gonna sit on the idea for a while. And maybe buy next month.
Yeah maybe there’s some magic formula to stave off the “hamster wheel” as I call it. But I haven’t found it yet. Wellbutrin seems to help in general. Very curious about semaglutide or similar.
ah my mistake, what causes edginess from not eating?
suzzer i take wellbutrin for depression/adhd/smoking cessation and it is a very good drug, i dont get appetite suppression though
No idea. Feelings and food are a complicated feedback loop.
Regardless though, your brain requires sugar to run so it doesn’t fuck around with that level much.
Me neither. But it seems to slow down the hamster wheel in my brain when I’m running a calorie deficit.
yea my dad was diabetic and would have hypoglycemic episodes that were pretty scary, it is no joke
People tell me all the time the way I eat is bad/unhealthy (i used to do a 4-6 hour meal window but i raised that to 8) but i almost always feel better when I do it, I modified it a bit to eat something small like an egg in the morning. if I want to lose weight and not be in maintenance then I just eat smaller on my big meal.
works for me idk, glad there seems to be a reliable med now
