I wish it gave you the option to mark spaces correct as well.
That just seems like a terrible way to play it. I play with the goal of keeping my score distribution as low as possible. Over half of my games have been won on the 2nd-3rd guess. 4th guess is a bad day for me, 5th extremely rare, don’t have any at 6.
I think they changed the archive/numbers? My stats are still around but the old games are gone. Should have tried that #15 earlier. Today’s was hard.

So how do you do it?
Say your starting word is “irate”. A nd E are yellow. Do you guess “sound” (or some other word with no letters in common) next? See, to me, that way seems terribly inefficient. You already have info that narrows down your possible word choices by a lot. I would guess something like “panel” next, incorporating new consonants with the vowels in different spots.
I guess to me, “hard mode” seems like the better way to do it, but whatever, maybe my brain is broken.
Take today’s for example. I started with irate since i suggested it in this post. A was green, I and R were yellow. My next guess was “chair” since it was the first thing I thought of with the clues given. When it wasn’t chair, but ended in AIR, it pretty much gave it away, especially since R and T aren’t in the word.
That’s how I do it, I was referring to the 3 blind guesses in 6 letter hurdle. It’s easier than classic wordle so it seems particularly wasteful.
Are there any words in OG wordle such that you can get all but one letter correct in the first guess and not be assured winning in 6 in hard mode?

I’m a bit odd in that I don’t really care about my score. I have two goals
- Don’t fail
- Finish as fast as possible in real time
Minimizing my average score is a distant 3rd. So I care a bit, just not very much.

Yes, one example is _OUND.
The optimal strategy is a combination of hard mode and not using hard mode when hard mode is to your detriment. See _OUND example above.
For example, in Wordle easy mode (which I haven’t done in a long time), my first two starters are AROSE and UNLIT. I’ve got all 5 vowels and the most common consonants covered. After that I play hard mode more or less. But it depends on what I get.
A lot of this is dependent on what you get. For example, if I start with AROSE and I get
A_O_E (all green), then you have a lot of letter combos that could go in there and I haven’t run all the scenarios but I think your optimal play is NOT to start guessing words with A_O_E. (of course, in this case, my second word would not be UNLIT)

Thankfully I got lucky
Self imposed hard mode cause I’m not even sure if there was a point where it would have been worth a letter burning guess. I was burning a good amount of letters through guess 4 and after that remaining guesses were too valuable, especially when I was still burning two letters per guess anyway.
