This one took some time to piece out
Ugh. I think it’s sometimes worse to get three common letters. Played effective hard mode, just forgot to flip the setting.
Wordle 230 4/6
First failure:

Getting it in 3 or less always involves a fair bit of luck. It’s not uncommon to go three guesses and have little more than a toehold with one vowel or something. And since everyone is emotionally invested in their own openers, the differences in them will lead to different results. Also, opening strategies for hard mode may be different from regular, as there’s an incentive to eliminate some letters of middling frequency rather than start out with a word consisting of the most abundant letters, and then getting locked into using them without the ability to eliminate many more letters. If you get into a situation where you have two guesses with four letters locked in but 5 letters could fit, a big vocabulary isn’t going to save you.
I tried this strategy this morning, and it accidentally worked great:

IRATE
CLONS
Those are the ten most common letters in the English alphabet summed up in two words. From there, you should have enough hints to get the third guess.
Normally if I get a lot of hints on IRATE, I try to guess on the second try but haven’t succeeded yet.
Of course you can’t use both of those guesses on hard difficulty for wordle.
It might be hard, but I’m going to stick with PENIS.
Ok fine, but the topic is how we play wordle?
Phew

Another thing you can do if you get stuck is look at the page source code. I’ve already solved the next three weeks of puzzles, huge time saver.
Such a bummer. What crappy programming.
Not quite true if you just look at 5-letter words tho:
My go-to for a while has been AROSE and UNITL (abandoning the second if I get enough right with the first to start making real guesses). Looks like that’s optimal.
Also interesting that A takes over the top spot here but I think this is because it’s just counting presence in the word and not accounting for doubling, multiple Es are super common and probably account for a big chunk of its frequency.
Looks like the next move after those would be DO U C Y?
In all seriousness, though, NYMPH would be a pretty killer third.
In other words make educated guesses but there’s a lot of luck too, lol.
I’ve noticed the systematic “use words with the most common letters” strat seems to be a great recipe for getting it in 3 or 4 at most, but hardly ever in 2. I do like to mix it up and try a weirder opener with a couple of middle-frequency consonants in it once in a while, you whiff fairly often but I’ve managed a couple of 2s in the past week this way.
In all seriousness, though, NYMPH would be a pretty killer third.
She sure would
Screwed around with random Dordle. Never doing better than this.

This is my strategy exactly (I assume you meant until).
Acutally my second word is unlit or until depending on what letter are revealed in the first word.
Literally texted my brother last night “we should make Quordle. 4 words, 9 guesses.”
