Winter cricket and bridge thread - Held over by popular demand

I mean, learning the rules and how it works is one thing, being able to play at a minimally competent level is another.

Chess is an order of magnitude harder to play at a competent level imo because although the rules are simple and easy to learn thereā€™s an absolute wealth of technical stuff and basic patterns you need to know too.

Yeah, the bidding is the hard part.

Marvel Comics is introducing a pair of superheroes named Snowflake and Safespace.

Iā€™ve never known a good bridge player that can play poker well and always found them to be fish, on the other hand I canā€™t play bridge to save my life, Kalookie thoughā€¦ :raised_hand:

I googled the spades game and the card play part is similar to bridge/trumps without the idea of a trump suit, so that explains it.

Iā€™d say bidding is almost all of it. Itā€™s hard to misplay the cards once youā€™ve started. Not impossible but I found that aspect way easier than bidding

Some of the olds have been playing with the same bridge partners for decades, which makes a massive difference.

I think this is right. BBO has a mode where you can play pickup games with randos and itā€™s usually just a total fuck story, way worse than the Zynga spades app which is also terrible for pickup partners knowing what theyā€™re doing

Oh, yeah, I should add that Snowflake is a non-white, non-binary character. There is some concern on the internet that maybe this is not a great name for that kind of character.

Just had my first job cancellation due to the End Times. So thereā€™s 65% of my income for May gone already.

Yeah this is wrong. I know there are hands that play themselves, but there are plenty of hard hands to play.

Letā€™s have a powers that be fundraiser. This forum you help run may very well have saved my life (covid thread). Thatā€™s gotta be worth 10 bucks.

The topic of donated money makes me super uncomfortable, but I do appreciate the sentiments behind it.

So Iā€™ve finally gotten around to watching dirty money on Netflix and itā€™s just something else. Iā€™ve only watched the Volkswagen and hsbc episodes, but itā€™s already evident that things really just arenā€™t going to change unless we have a total overhaul of the government. I donā€™t understand how either of those companies are still allowed to do business in the us

I havenā€™t had any inquiries since the outbreak, but itā€™s likely it will increase demand for battery back-up/off-grid systems. (I installed a battery today - ordered a while back though) Or maybe everyone will be broke.

That old 2p2 thread by the bridge expert who tried to suicide by jumping off a bridge was lit.

played with him a few times on BBO, cool guy
