wat? You’re penalised for hitting the ball too well?
Sounds like a goddamn commie tax plan.

No, because being able to throw hard and accurately is a huge asset when you field (which you spend more time doing than bowling).
The field of play, at least in the way it’s used there, extends forever along two lines 45 degrees either side of where the batter is facing. A home run is inside the field of play as specified, just over the fences. The rule is basically so you don’t have to have to fielders 360 around the batter.
Actually, that’s not really true, to be a home run you just have to pass over the fences inside that range, between some massive poles.
There’s a beauty and grace to bowling and batting that I’ve never seen in baseball (which seems to be mainly about brute force and ignorance).
dons his cricket helmet
There’s a club league of guys who play cricket at my local park in spring. They have uniforms and everything.
These days, it’s pretty embarrassing to get caught cheating. I mean it’s so easy to do that I’m sure I don’t catch most people doing it, especially on objective homework assignments. I don’t even care if they do cheat on those assignments. Not gonna lose my mind about it.
But on writing assignments, they make it way too obvious when it happens. Hell, I don’t even need TurnItIn to pick up on it.
Annoys the hell out of me when they deny the obvious. I’d rather them fess up and do their own work.
Bigger learning curve: cricket or bridge?
All this sportsball talk just made me realize that our beer league softball team where I’ve been playing with the same core group of guys over the past decade likely isn’t happening this year. We’ve picked up some younger guys to play the outfield for us over the last couple years too so that we can still compete to make us feel good about ourselves.
Wasn’t this the LC thread?
Bridge is just trumps with some bidding preamble that can be learnt quickly. As long as you’ve played trumps it’s not too much of a learning curve to follow what’s happening.
Cricket is regarded as lower than LC by tptb here.
Fuck is trumps?
A card game to soften the learning curve for bridge.
Whenever I hear talk about how easy bridge is to learn I’m stuck wondering whether those people are clueless or I’m supremely terrible at the game
Of course they come back and deny that shit.
Shocks me because they’re otherwise good students. But there are way too many similiarities in their writing for it to be incidental cheating.
Um, I mean learning the rules of bridge is one thing…
Game is a bitch to learn to play at even a beginner level, and I love the game
People who say it’s hard…have you played any other versions without the bidding, which is where most of the hard stuff happens?
I mean I’ve played spades which is baby bridge, and euchre which is baby spades.
I downloaded FunBridge, did all the tutorials, soaked up as much as I could from online tutorials, watched that cool British dude with the other 70s haircut people goofily explain everything step by step…and I still just fucking suck at it. I can’t bid right ever unless I’m holding a slam hand and sometimes underbid badly when I am looking to slam. It’s insane.
How do olds who can’t even remember what pills to take nail it??
