We use “provinces” in a way you’re possibly not familiar with. #2:

Americans sometimes use the adjective “provincial” to mean quaint or unsophisticated, but it seems almost unrelated to the noun.

I feel like this “definition” is just a jumped-up figure of speech.

“Britain” is the name of the island upon which England, Scotland and Wales sit, right?

It’s a collection of islands technically, but yeah ok.

It’s so simple!

Whales isn’t part of England? wtf. Didn’t England conquer it in like 1187 or something?

… and that’s without getting into the Crown dependencies like the Channel Islands and Isle Of Man.

Wales is part of Engerlund when it comes to cricket, and that’s all that really matters.

The Welsh are actually the proper English from before the fucking Romans, Saxons and other bloody immigrants messed it all up, so we gave them a break.

What about the Isle of Mann?

part of Very Great Britain, obviously

There’s probably a weird name for every 2 region combination of England, Scotland and Wales too.

I mean no one says to Americans/Canadians “Look at that crappy stretch of water you call Superior - lol”.

We’re the taco bell of countries.

England, Scotland, and Wales are on Great Britain, the largest of the British Isles. Little Britain is now known as Ireland, so shortening GB to just Britain is not ambiguous.

Ya’ll haven’t even scratched the surface yet of empire, monarchy, commonwealth, territories and dependencies.

I recently learned some of Canadas provinces don’t have counties. Mind asplode.
