Two people in two days have told me I’m the most patient man they’ve ever met. Now I suspect everyone not openly an asshole is secretly an asshole.
Wow - I didn’t realize this was in Manhattan Beach. @microbet - any stories?
For the youngs - this thing absolutely dominated the news in the 80s. Everyone thought they were guilty of at least something. I mean how can 100s of children be lying? Well…
The trial lasted seven years and cost $15 million,[40] the longest and most expensive criminal case in the history of the United States legal system, and ultimately resulted in no convictions.[2][4][22] The McMartin preschool was closed and the building was dismantled; several of the accused have since died. In 2005, one of the children (as an adult) retracted the allegations of abuse.[17][41]
Never did anyone do anything to me, and I never saw them doing anything. I said a lot of things that didn’t happen. I lied. … Anytime I would give them an answer that they didn’t like, they would ask again and encourage me to give them the answer they were looking for. … I felt uncomfortable and a little ashamed that I was being dishonest. But at the same time, being the type of person I was, whatever my parents wanted me to do, I would do.[17]
Michael P. Maloney, a clinical psychologist and professor of psychiatry, reviewed videotapes of the children’s interviews. Maloney, testifying as an expert witness on interviewing children, was highly critical of the techniques used, referring to them as improper, coercive, directive, problematic and adult-directed in a way that forced the children to follow a rigid script. He concluded that “many of the kids’ statements in the interviews were generated by the examiner.”[18] Transcripts and recordings of the interviews contained far more speech from adults than children and demonstrated that, despite the highly coercive interviewing techniques used, initially the children were resistant to interviewers’ attempts to elicit disclosures. The recordings of the interviews were instrumental in the jury’s refusal to convict, by demonstrating how children could be coerced to giving vivid and dramatic testimonies without having experienced actual abuse.[19] The techniques used were shown to be contrary to the existing guidelines in California for the investigation of cases involving children and child witnesses.[20]
I had a friend in college who went there. No stories though. I moved to MB in about 2003. My wife grew up there. I’m sure she knew a bunch of people who went there.
I’m curious what Jordan Peterson’s take on on a successful strong woman like say Madonna would be. Is she actually a deeply unhappy person because she’s not in living a domestic life cranking out babies? Or is she the exception that screws up other young girls’ heads thinking they can be like her?
I guess maybe the latter, although I’m sure actually getting a straight answer out of him would be impossible. BUT HERE JUST LISTEN TO THIS 45 MINUTE YOUTUBE IT EXPLAINS EVERYTHING.
Or just head to 2-2 where JV will happily precis his hero’s thoughts in 500 words of mangled bullshit for you.
I haven’t been able to listen to Jordan Peterson for more than 5 minutes without either falling asleep or giggling about the fact that he sounds like Kermit the Frog.
He is the dumb man’s version of a smart guy. He says lots of big words very quickly to bamboozle people into thinking that he’s some kind of genius when he’s really a guy crying about Frozen and making crab-related analogies.
He advocates rising above difficult experiences over processing them. Repression over engagement. In my experience, that is a recipe for inevitable addiction and turning yourself into a nuclear time bomb. So I’m not entirely surprised to see what outcomes have manifested for him.
My former lab mate from Mexico City referred to himself as brown a few times to me, but only sarcastically.
I don’t know who Jordan Peterson is. Is that a good thing or bad thing? Honest question.
Depends. What are your thoughts on jet fuel melting steel?
Canadian psychologist who made his name claiming calling trans people by their preferred pronoun is the downfall of western civilization. Now he is an alt-right folk hero who speaks about men’s rights, a metaphorical afterlife, and why feminism is really really bad.
Also sounds like Kermit the Frog, cries a lot while speaking in public, and has a litany of mental health problems which he misinterprets as physiological problems.
Gabor Mate is the man. Going to listen to these.
What a treat to meet another Gabor Mate fan
Never heard of him. Seems cool.
