Winter 2021 LC Thread—I Want Sous Vide

My ex gf recently bought a cross breed puppy off Craigslist. I went with her to pick him up. I think she was just casually browsing and saw one that was cute. It didn’t occur to her to explore other options and her heart was set by the time I suggested the pound. Listed at $400, paid 3.

There are people who operate legitimate rescue shelters, but there are also jerks who just want to show off a rare pet and don’t know how to care for them properly.

Not sure about actual pounds but most rescues and people trying to find a good home for a dog charge a rehoming fee. There are crazy people that look for free pets to abuse and put in dog fights, etc.

Yeah that’s my understanding of it as well. Would not surprise me if real influencers actually rent a dog for a few days or w/e because they are generally scammers themselves and definitely aren’t paying out $8,000 for a labradoodle. That Bilzerian clown rents women for photographs, so surely you could rent a dog from somewhere.

The WAGS video informs us that they will make sure your dog is well cared for if you decide not to buy the dog when the lease term is up. How could anyone doubt that?

It looks like the lease terms are kind of weird though. If you make all the payments, the amount to buy out is very small (like only one or two more payments worth). Clearly WAGS doesn’t want to be ending up repossessing any if they can help it.

This is so weird. They had a couple inches of snow here in Portland and it’s literally shut the state down. Everything is cancelled and nobody went to work. It’s surreal.

Couple of inches of snow in portland always ended up starting to melt and then turning to ice and being miserable or almost impossible to drive on when I lived there.

The American PNW just doesn’t have the plowing and salting infrastructure of the upper Midwest or much of Canada. We just don’t get snow here every year, so having a fleet of plows looks like an outsized expense for an intermittent need. Almost no one has a plow for the front of their truck, and snow blowers are rare. When we do get snow, it’s usually gone in a day or two, so kinda sorta shutting down for a few inches of snow isn’t all that big a deal.

If you want high comedy, watch people trying to drive through it. It’s always hilarious and thankfully almost never deadly.

It’s definitely this, but also Portland and Seattle (moreso than most places that get snow) are apparently extremely concerned about the environmental impact of salting (it’s not as benign as one might think). So they’re not very aggressive about doing it. This was the impression I got about 10 yrs ago, so things may be different now.

No, that’s a good point, too, and I’m pretty sure it’s still true that they only use sand.

That makes sense. We are going to head home early if I can find a pcr covid test anywhere which is proving very difficult to do!

Yeah, I posted this in the LOL LAW thread as well. If you feel like getting angry, there’s an article here about similar cases.

there’s a spun around car in seattle route 99 that’s been there since yesterday. the dot here is also a clownshow when the snow falls.

What in the fuck. Two fucking years with no criminal record for delivering a package? That is so straight up evil.

Anyone got cliffs on this?

I would assume that Uber driver was told that the package had some illegal shit in it. If he didn’t know, then I don’t see the crime. And if he was told, the whole thing sounds very shitty and like the kind of entrapment that isn’t supposed to be allowed.

It’s a letter to the editor referencing the article ChrisV posted.

So far the actual case hasn’t been linked.

Covid could have solved this problem for all of us but when push came to shove, the libs just wanted to save as many boomers as they could.

Can someone give me the cliffs on Cawthon and this fake crossfit competition? I don’t understand what exactly that was.

Video of him saying that when he was in a casino in Russia he met an American there that turned into a friendship and like 1.5 years later the dude invites him to a CrossFit competition but it ends up being fake and he says the guy just wanted to get him in the same room as the girl he ends up marrying.
