It’s a poor attempt if it is, because outside of like the UP bubble, nobody I know has ever heard of it.

youtube’s decision to hide the dislike counter is one of the worst decisions in the history of the internet. If they were hellbent on protecting creators from getting ganged up on, then fine, give creators the option of whether to display the dislikes on videos that they post. It’s mindboggling. It’s worse than when Mars decided not to let Spielberg use M&Ms in ET. Who are these idiots? They’re idiots
