Winter 2021 LC Thread—I Want Sous Vide

I found a nice example of an endangered Florida Star Orchid this weekend, and looking at a photo I took of it it struck me that this little guy looks lo much like the Jeb(!) meme:

News to me but according to wiki:

The term “trickle-down” originated as a joke by humorist Will Rogers

The horse and sparrow analogy is funnier. Sorry, Will.

Indeed, the richest 10% of the world’s population hold 76%, or two-thirds of all wealth.

This looks interesting; not sure what thread it belongs in.

A couple of days ago Macron finished the first visit of a Western leader in Saudi Arabia since the Khashoggi murder.

Someone knows how to celebrate:

Conspiracy theory:

Wyclef and Shakira not actually in the same space when this video was filmed. This has bothered me for a decade.

I would make an exception and leave that statue up. It’s just incredible and deserves to be seen.

I love edibles but hate that most come with an overload of sugar and crap. Should’ve made world’s largest tincture, but …

This site should rebrand to a dedicated Shakira forum.

What do you think is a fair price to pay a friend to watch your dog in your apartment per night?

What are the duties and how far out of the way is it for them?

As a benchmark, my dog’s dog walkers will take her overnight at their homes for $50 Canadian per night. It would be odd for a friend to seek more than the going rate for overnight boarding so maybe look into that.

The other factor would be the socioeconomic status of the friend. We have had affluent friends babysit our dog overnight just because it’s fun for their kids. But if it was someone that was tight on money then obviously I wouldn’t feel comfortable dumping work and potentially costs on them.

Literally just feed the dog and let him out 3 times a day. Maybe a walk around the neighborhood. He lives less than 2 miles away.

$50 seems reasonable. It’s less than typical overnight boarding (at least around here), so your friend is still doing you a favor, but is also enough to be fair to your friend’s time.
