Wild fire season 2021

@skydiver8. Wow this is terrifying. Please stay safe and keep us updated. This whole thread scares the fukkkkkkk outa me.

Air was a little bad right near the beach today in SoCal. Winter? Itā€™s cooler at night and short days, but it was 80 deg today and weā€™ve had like one day of rain in the lastā€¦i donā€™t know, seems like a year.

Itā€™s just dry really dry here right now. From July 1- Nov 24th of 2020, San Diego has had .38 inches of precipitation, and it hasnā€™t rained since then either. Granted the average over that time period is 1.53 inches. Temp highs are still in the 70s(20sC) here. I feel like most of the 20 years that Iā€™ve lived here had less than 10 inches of rain total.

wind has died down for now, we were spared but there were a few little fires south of us in El Cajon.

Fortunately, it seems like calfire was super prepared and got a hold of them quickly.

Noticed we havent had a 2021 thread yet, so fuck it.

The entirety of South Lake Tahoe is under mandatory evacuation orders. This is likely to be the most devastating fire in California monetarily since Malibu, and this one is much bigger. If they dont break it before it reaches the houses and ski resorts, the economic devastation will be off the charts, which is secondary to the number of homes people will lose.

Fuck

Wind is blowing essentially directly into SLT. people are being forced to evacuate into Nevada as the California side of the lake is soon to be completely inaccesable.

My friend left last night and is up around Reno atm.

Jesus, is that 50 headed into Nevada?

Yeah pretty sure.

Wow. My entire family lives in Carson City. Just text my brother and he said he has a friend living in their camper and other friends storing all their belongings in my brothers garage. Mom went to stock up on food and supplies.

I live near the north side of the lake, about 15 miles from the current evac zone. This is really scary for South Lake Tahoe, I hope they can keep the fire out. This is what it looked like from up here as the fire blew up yesterday.

Fires are scary as fuck. Those videos of people driving through insane wild fires are one of the most terrifying things Ive ever seen and made me super paranoid about them. Got a bug out plan and would leave way before I got mandatory evaced.

My wife and I watched Fire in Paradise last night on Netflix, and it was incredibly harrowing. Some of the video made me hold my breath and some of the stories were awful. I cant imagine being in that situation

Hope all the non-Californians can keep good thoughts for Northern/central California tonight. We are expecting a pretty large round of thunderstorms tonight and with how dry everything is, you can expect that we are likely to see a number of new fires spark. That and winds expecting to be up tomorrow spells bad news.
