Who will run in 2020?

the original endorsement was shit. this retraction is one of those non-apology apologies…like, “I’m sorry you were offended.”

Where’s my fainting couch?

Welp Bernie’s probably done for now.

Lol?

yeah yeah, misogyny is fake and funny, I get it.

Katie Hill, pushed out by misogyny, being replaced by a misogynist. So perfect for the times.

And of course this won’t hurt Bernie. But I forgot, this is a bash Pete thread.

Cenk retracted all of that stuff 15+ years ago

Your attacks on Bernie are nothing but anti semetic.

Gross maybe but the notion that calling people racist makes them racist is absurd nonsense
They were already there. What pushes them rightwards is the lack of a left. They know the Dem party hasn’t had their back for 40 years. Nobody speaks to their interest so they vote for whoever promises change convincingly enough. That’s how Obama won the rust belt, that’s how Trump won it too.

Cenk was a Republican before 2000. Everything he believed back then was disqualifying. Can he change? Ask Liz.

He’s still for Medicare for All. Passing that is more important than some dumb shit he said 15 years ago.

Pete backing off M4A is fine.

Pete making up black supporters is fine.

Pete being a CIA secret shill is fine.

Pete hating black people is fine.

Bernie endorsing and retracting is where we draw the line.

2016 was only 3 years ago. 2013 was 6 years ago.

Sorry, but Cenk is gross.

Does his opponent support M4A? If not it doesn’t really matter how shitty a person Cenk is.

Evidence for this?

Oh you’re saying that you’re mad that he endorsed Cenk in the first place? Gtfoh. It’s legit hard to think of many people who have done more for the progressive movement in the US than Cenk Uygur. There is no Congresswoman AOC without Cenk starting Justice Democrats and raising awareness and tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars (including a few of mine) for her primary campaign on TYT.

(Edited: Somehow AOC’s name was omitted in the original post)

Yeah, you’re really not helping here.

thread with receipts. Funny how people get all wiggly on social justice when it actually is a complaint against your “guy”.

Obviously that was an exaggeration, but I’m still worried/paranoid about how the MSM can use this to hurt Bernie badly.

This endorsement + retraction combined with Cenk saying he refuses endorsements the day after Cenk is happy about getting the endorsement on a TYT clip is just a mess. Now that Bernie made this slip up the other candidates finally have something to attach him on. I expect it to be asked of him at the next debate, brought up as a talking point by the pre-debate / post-debate panel when discussing the candidates, and used to show that he is a flip-flopper, etc. Because Bernie is held to such a higher standard that the other candidates, this ‘minor’ issue has a chance of being a lot more than that.

I really wish Bernie would have just stuck with his endorsement here.

It’s not our guy, it’s an endorsement of some other guy. How many degrees of separation should we be talking about on Pete? Who has Pete worked for and with and what have they done? Can we now look at anyone he associated with at McKinsey and what day did? Can we look at what the people he worked for in Afghanistan did? Or Iraq?

We spend a lot of time talking about how to target government programs on this forum. I’m saying class should play a huge role in how we target these programs. The big self reinforcing reason why institutional racism happens in this country is because it works. For the people on the front lines carrying it out it fucking works. They don’t do it out of malice, they do it because they have numbers to hit for a job they’d like to keep so they can pay a mortgage. Then they become racist so that they can sleep at night, because when the job is bashing minorities being racist makes the whole thing a lot easier to take.

One of the most effective things I think we could do to eliminate the problems in this country would be to 1) do our very best to actually eliminate poverty and 2) change how we measure success. We need to spend way less on cops and way more on education and mental health. We need to systematically address poverty rather than punishing people for being poor. And we need to do all of that without talking about race, because the majority of the people we’re trying to help are white, and if they think that we’re trying to uplift minorities without helping them any they are going to vote for the person promising to help them. Drowning people will use the person trying to rescue them as a life preserver to the point where they drown that person.

You’re not going to magically make a bunch of desperate people woke and enlightened until you remove their desperation. It’s fucking primal down there. They are not interested in talking about anything other than how you’re going to help them get clear of the systematic oppression they live with every single day… and saying ‘but someone else has it worse’ is going to make them want to bash your head in and take your stuff.
