Who will run in 2020?

Listen to it if you’re interested in her views, it’s cruel and unusual to me to summarize it.

cliffs redux without any sarcasm: she’s an anti-immigration nationalist, and lol @ anyone who did na zi it a mile away.

I base my beliefs on evidence. Not other people’s opinions. I know she’s called out Asad as being a brutal dictator. I know she’s willing to call out our government’s role in waging regime change wars such as in Syria. I know she was against the completion of the Dakota pipeline. I know she’s for the Green New Deal. I know she’s against putting people in prison for marijuana. I know she’s for covering the uninsured with healthcare. She’s still not progressive enough for me, but she outflanks Biden, Harris, and mayor Pete on the left

Sorry I missed your post on those votes and I couldn’t find them just now quickly. I’ll look more. But curious how long ago those votes were. She was the youngest elected [something] at the age of 21. Also, I’m not sure how you can be against most unnecessary foreign involvement, an isolationist, and be a war hawk even in her own way

Yeah, I am not advocating for her presidency. That’s never been my intent. I just don’t think there should be a rigid line where if you cross over party lines on one particular issue, or disagree with your own party on something that you’re committing some sort of party blasphemy. We’re living in weird times. I dislike establishment Dems probably as much as some of the older people disliked Republicans back in the day. The only difference is that today’s Republican politicians have given up any pretense of having a moral compass and have gone full blown evil on our ass, so I can’t say I hate establishment Ds as much as I do Rs. Yet…

I did listen to that section and agree that she’s generally anti-immigration (though her voting record is solidly on the less anti-immigration side of the Democratic party). I just don’t understand your “O P E N B O R D E R S” in that post. It comes off like you are suggesting that she supports open borders.

Weird how every single woke bro libertarian dipshit hates immigrants and has thoughts on the confederacy

Holy shit! +2 hours? Thanks for this. I’ll listen to it and maybe have more of an understanding aboutu where you’re coming from?

No I meant that O P E N B O R D E R S is an agitprop word that gives white olds on Fox the mads; I guess she didn’t say it, but Rogan says it and she took it immediately to “there are practical limitations” to welcoming suffering people to the US.

Yeah. I don’t like her much on immigration or war, but her position on immigration is not on the right-wing side of the Democratic party generally and I’ve gone back a while on immigration related bills and I haven’t found a case where she voted on the immigration hawk side of the Dem party.

Who the fuck is donating to Tom Steyer? Fucking hell, he doesn’t need your $3 donation, grandma

https://twitter.com/trackerdebate/status/1201721291394469888?s=21

he does to make the next round of debates iirc

he’s asking for 1$ donations os

I’m sure I missed some, but I went through her entire voting record back to 1/15/2013 trying to find every vote on immigration and I didn’t find a single case where she voted more hawkishly than any Democrats even though there were opportunities where there was some division in the party - though pretty much always a strong majority on the less-hawkish side.

No you don’t. This is not as much of a burn as it seems, most people don’t, even smart ones.

Other people’s opinions are a kind of evidence.

When you carry people’s water all day, they’re often fine with you having to distance yourself from them for political expediency, ldo, so you are able to continue to carry their water all day.

Yeah, but for the fact that our government is not waging a ‘regime change’ war in Syria. There was a civil war though, and Tulsi stood shoulder to shoulder with Assad who gassed and barrel bombed tens of thousands of Sunni Arabs. It’s ok though who cares about them.

So is a guy you might have heard of but I don’t want to put in the effort of saying who he is. He’s in the natural gas business. He’s a direct competitor of North American fossil fuel interests. Dakota pipeline = less $ for him. He finds this whole Green New Deal stuff amusing, as it has the dual benefit of weakening his competition and simultaneously not cramping his style, win win in other words.

What a maverick.

At least she learned something from Bernie.

Good on you, my service here is to identify the wolf in sheep’s clothing because some still can’t.

As I said, they start discussing immigration at 33 minutes in and it lasts for ~10 minutes. You’re forewarned that it’s no less drained of decency than her B blocks with Tucker.

Bernie is not wonderful on immigration. I don’t like his “open borders? that’s a koch bros idea” comment. He is a pro-American Labor guy who wants to balance interests here differently than I do, but he’s probably still the best candidate on this and his position to decrease funding on border security is huge and he’s the only one.

For years, Congress has ramped up spending for border security in exchange for a compromise on immigration that has not materialized. Enough is enough. We must demilitarize the border and refocus our spending priorities away from treating immigrants as criminals.

The most charitable explanation is that she’s grifting now but her actual voting record is defensible. Even still, she is oh so obviously disseminating a nationalistic message and pandering to a nationalistic constituency. Maybe it’s 56th dimensional chess and she wants the lure some of the Obama dotard defectors back.

What was Kamala Harris doing when she thought abolishing ICE was hilarious?

I don’t think her nationalism is outside the norm for the Democratic party.

Democrats fear losing elections if they go too far left on immigration (this fear holds for basically every issue). I probably agree with that calculation. But Democrats don’t tend to go on Fox News and regurgitate alt-right takes on the “practical limitations” of welcoming more refugees because there is a homeless problem in San Francisco.

What’s stopping Steyer from saying he will mail anyone who donates $1 to his campaign a $5 bill? Seems like he can meet the donation requirements super easy that way. If he needs to get to 300,000 donors for January, that’s only 100,000*$4.25 (i’m deducting some of the $1 in fees) ~ $425,000 out of his wallet. Pocket change for him.

Bernie has sent copies of his book out for donating to him. He and Warren both send out stickers in exchange for donations often. Based on that I don’t see why Steyer couldn’t just mail out $5 bills.

This kind of thinking (Democrats really have good hearts, but they act like assholes so as not to lose votes) has been proven really wrong most of the time. When the Dems built fences and walls on the border and detention facilities and when they bombed people and when they reformed welfare and when they talked about clean coal it wasn’t about getting votes from some group of American voters who wanted that stuff, it was because that is what they and their sponsors actually want.

I can take most of that point, although I don’t think being motivated by fear implies that they otherwise have good hearts, they are just not in general motivated by nativism, whereas Red Sparrow is at best grifting on nativist sentiment (imo she’s nakedly inflaming it). Democrats currently favor much more immigration and would legalize/enfranchise millions of undocumented people. This is mostly very good, although most like Harris may not have the imagination to conceive of a country without an agency devoted to immigration enforcement.

Jesus, just ran the numbers on Bloomberg.

Bloomberg is worth 54.6 billion.

Let’s say he wants to qualify for the Dem debates, and he currently has 0 donors, so he needs to pick up 200,000 donors.

If he woke up one day and decided to pay $25/each to the first 200,000 people that donate to him, he would still make over $1,000,000 that day, assuming a 4% annual interest rate on his wealth, and assuming that every single donor only gave him $1.

Yeah, Bernie is right. billionaires should not exist.

Would be it be illegal for me to tell a friend I’ll give them money if they vote for a specific person?
