I’m focused more on the framework for choosing the candidate I like the most. The big picture is more important than individual policies.
I want someone who will campaign and govern as a partisan Democrat and eschew talk about unity and bipartisanship. I want someone who will embrace a narrative of class warfare. I want someone with some anti-establishment credentials who makes the Democratic party establishment at least someone uneasy. I want someone who will disagree with Republican philosophy about the size and role of government. Tiebreaker goes to whoever has superficial qualities (gender/race/etc.) that will trigger Trump and his supporters.
I feel like my priorities should make it easy for someone else to give a good approximation of how I rank the candidates. Anyone who wants to make me fall in love with their candidate has to explain how they fit into what I want.
In all seriousness I’m going to be heartbroken if Bernie doesn’t get the nom. Unfathomable to me how anyone could support any other candidate in the primary.
My Dad and his wife seem to be in Camp Buttigieg. I talk briefly about politics with my Dad when we talk. Usually we just clown on Trump. When I brought up Bernie he kinda said, ‘maybe young people like Bernie but there are ALOT of people in this country who are not ready for SOCIALISM.’
You have zero intellectual integrity. I wasn’t sure wtf 6ix was complaining about because yes, rooting out corruption would be a good goal if it was an actual goal and not just a dishonest appeal to the masses. Like wtf is your position on it? Here’s a hint, because I know you’re not very good at thinking for yourself: It’s also Bernie’s plan (Bernie Sanders takes aim at the DNC with his new anti-corruption plan). I expect now it will be your rallying cry, and you’ll have no sense of shame about it, because your position on things is entirely fluid and dependent on whatever you think will score points for Bernie in the moment.
I personally ding Bernie a bit for not actually being a Democrat. I still consider him above average in this field, but it’s hard for me to consider him as my #1 choice in the primaries so long as he has that pesky “I” next to his name.
So in one of the polls I got called for, I was asked for a favorability rating on every Dem candidate. When they said Seatak’s name, my response literally was who?
I know who Sestak is. Former admiral. Defeated a long-time incumbent Republican congressman while running against the war in Iraq. Knocked off Arlen Specter in the Democratic Senate primary after Specter switched parties, but couldn’t beat Pat Toomey. Tried to go for a re-match six years later, but finished second in the primary.
Given that I knew all that, I was vaguely aware that he was running for president, but I didn’t know that he was still technically in the race. Maybe he was just running to remind people he was still alive in case someone wanted to tap him for a national security role in a Democratic administration.
